Jermaine H. is a 41-year-old native of the Freeport, Bahamas, having arrived with a tourist visa at the age of 17. Although his father later became a US citizen, Jermaine had already turned 18 by that time and he missed out on becoming a US citizen with his dad. He's lived and worked peacefully in the United States for the past 24 years.
Unfortunately, Jermaine now finds himself in ICE detention as an illegal alien at the FARMVILLE DETENTION CENTER (see photo) after being arrested in Virginia for speeding and possession of a few grams of marijuana for personal use. His criminal case is still pending since he's in ICE detention and he has not been released to defend his case. He's been held almost a year!
I am an immigration attorney and after I entered the case in May 2018, I was able to get him a $5000 bond from the Arlington Immigration Court to get out of detention and be able to defend his case while free. I represented him pro bono (free).
Unfortunately, Jermaine has not able to raise the funds to get out. The immigration judge was sympathetic to his financial condition and several months ago lowered the bond to $3000, but he has still not able to raise more than the $400 he has earned at $1/hour in the detention kitchen. He has now been detained since December 2017!
Jermaine has two US-born children, a 7-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son who live with their mother in Brooklyn, NY and miss their father very much.
If you can contribute something to help Jermaine get out after nearly a year of detention he will certainly be deeply grateful to you. Once the $3000 goal is reached, the GoFundMe will be closed, and the firm's Client Trust Fund containing the funds will be used to post his bond. If the bond amount is returned by the government in the future after his case is over, the funds will be place back into the Client Trust Fund for other needed immigration bond cases.
