Timberline Bible School

I have good news! After a lot of running from him, I have recently recommitted my life to Christ! I have felt God pulling me towards him for a long time, but I always convinced myself that I didn’t need him. I thought I could live without God, but in reality I was only fooling myself. Gladly, God brought me back to my senses and humbled me to the point where I finally realized how much I need him! I NEED God - without him I wouldn’t be able to function, I wouldn’t be able to properly love others, I wouldn’t exist. Now that I have my head on a little more straight, I am determined to go all in - serving God until I move on to be with him in Heaven.

After I recommitted myself to Christ, I quickly discovered my need for community - that without other believers around me, I cannot make it in my walk. I prayed about this and God answered my prayers with an awesome group of kids and leaders from my local church, Community Fellowship. I also discovered that without strong roots and a solid foundation, my relationship with God will not last very long or grow very strong (Matthew 13:1-23). In other words, I can’t do this on my own! Only God can provide me with the support and strength needed to live for him. I want to grow more in Christ, and to do this I am looking to spend some time in the Discipleship Program at Timberline Lodge in Winter Park, Colorado.

Timberline is a 9-month program that focuses on the study of the Bible, discipleship through mentoring, service in the community, prayer, and some pretty awesome outdoor adventures. I have heard a lot about the program from my sister, who attended it a few years ago. I was glad when she decided to go to Timberline, and completely confused when she came back. She was a totally different person - she went there to explore her faith and learn more about God, and in the process she developed a strong and solid relationship with him. This was evident to me when she came back - I could see how her perspective on life had changed to one that was centered on God, and I was perplexed. Since then, I’ve always been curious about Timberline. I travelled to Winter Park this April and visited the camp (and my sister), and right away I felt at home. The air there is clean, the sun shines a lot, and to say that the mountains there are ‘beautiful’ would be a severe understatement. The staff I met was loving and I really felt that the leadership there was strong and rooted in Christ. I even got to talk to the guy who runs the camp, Pete Hammond, and meet his family. I saw that this was a place where people grew, and now that I have recommitted my life to Christ, all I want to do is grow.

This is why I feel that attending Timberline is a good choice for me. It will allow me to gain a foundation in Christ, so that I can remain focused on him as I complete the work he has laid out for me. I want to show people how much God loves them through any means possible. My favorite way to do this is through music, which is a gift that God has been nice enough to give me. I would love to find any way I can to use my gifts for his glory, but before I do so I want to get rooted in his word. This way I will be able to produce lots of fruit, and God can work through me even better!

The unfortunate reality, however, is that I cannot actually afford to go to Timberline. It is a really awesome program with a lot of opportunities to serve. They also provide food, housing, etc. for the students for the entirety of the 9 months. Because of these things, the cost per semester is $6,500. I am seeking scholarship opportunities through the camp, but I do not know for sure if I will be able to get any financial support, or how much I might be able to get. I trust that God’s plan will work out for his good no matter what happens - whether that means I get to go for the full year, only second semester, or not at all. I am working on raising money, so I am asking for two things. First, and most importantly: If you could pray that God’s plan for my life will play out, and that I would continue to trust in him, that would be great. And second, I am looking for financial support in the form of donations. In exchange, I will serve you in whatever way you need to be served. This includes just about anything. I can do indoor and outdoor projects and maintenance, babysit, do your dishes, walk your dog, play music for you, fix your computer, and anything in between. If you are unable to help out financially, prayer works just as well (probably even better)! Like I said earlier, I am happy with whatever God chooses to provide for me. First semester begins in the middle of September (I would arrive on September 13), so if by some miracle God provides in time for me to go I will be happy! I will be happy if I can go for second semester, and I will be happy if God has me stay here and serve in DuPage County.

When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”
