According to the CDC, the average weekly emergency visit for juveniles suspected of suicide were 39% higher than the previous year. Anxiety and depression among kids 3-17 increased by nearly 30%. Over the last few years approximately 43% of Pueblo County middle and high school students reported feeling sad and hopeless and admitted to withdrawing from regular activities for at least two weeks at a time. 11.7% of those students attempted suicide at least once during the last 12 months. As these numbers continue to increase at an alarming rate, it is essential to show our support for our community members struggling with their mental health.
You can help bring awareness to this growing issue while getting to know the leaders in the Pueblo community who are working to make childhood and adolescent mental health a priority by joining the CSU-Pueblo nursing program for the "Be Kind to Your Mind” walk on June 10th, 2023. The event will start at 8:00 am. All proceeds will be donated to Fire Fit Kids.
