Friends, family and wider community, we reach out today with an urgent call for help.
On Saturday, August 22nd, Danica Lima’s husband, Tim, called when heading home from work to discuss dinner plans for them and their kids - Ariana (15), Ayden (14) and Ace (3). When her husband didn’t arrive home, 3 hours later, Danica Lima knew something was wrong.
The Lima Family’s lives changed forever when Danica received news from highway patrol that Tim had been in a sudden and horrible car accident. Tim was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent numerous surgeries to save his life.
Organs were removed due to the extensive trauma his body had endured, he suffered a double fractured arm, and most devastatingly, both of his legs were amputated; in an instant, Tim was rendered a double amputee.

Tim bravely survived days of extensive surgeries, and on August 25th, doctors woke Tim out of the medically induced coma he had been in while fighting for his life. Now, Danica, Tim and their family are embracing hope as they recover and rebuild.
If you know Danica, you can attest to the light that she brings to the world each and every day. She is a person who always lends a helping hand to those around her and shows up fully for her students, co-workers, family and friends. She has often contributed to causes supporting others, and now we are here to rally around Danica and Tim.

Tim has a long road of recovery and rebuilding in front of him. His body will need time and space to heal from his injuries and surgeries. After that, Tim will need months of physical therapy to regain his strength and learn how to navigate with new tools, like a wheelchair and possibly prosthetics. Their home will need to be reconfigured to create better access for Tim, their children will need increased care and support, and there are still a lot of unknowns about what the days ahead will hold.
Now as ever, Danica is choosing gratitude. She is grateful that her husband is alive and that her three children still have their father. While the realities of hospitalization during COVID-19 have added to the complication of she and their children visiting Tim, Danica is focusing on what she can do to support Tim and their children as they begin to process and move forward as a family.

We are uniting to support and equip Danica and Tim as they move into their new reality. We invite you to join us in bringing recovery and a way forward to this beautiful family.
Our campaign goal is $100,000. There is so much that goes into creating a home and routine for a double amputee that the family was unprepared for and that medical insurance will not cover.
Funds will be contributed to the following:
- Most immediately, the Lima family will need to restructure their home to make it accessible for Tim and the tools he will use in his daily life once he comes home. This includes modifications to entrances, exits and doors, including ramps, handrails and widening doorways; modifications to the master bathroom, including walk-in shower/tub and sink access; modifications to the kitchen, ensuring wheelchair accessibility and access to cabinets (Estimated at $40,000)
- Vehicle modification/replacement to accommodate wheelchair access (Estimated at $15,000)
- Prosthetics for Tim (estimated at $25,000)
- Foldable electric wheelchair (estimated at $5,000)
- Additional medical, child care, and physical therapy costs (estimated at $15,000)
Thank you for reading Tim’s story. We appreciate any help or contribution, no matter how big or small! If possible, please share our campaign link on social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and with your friends. We will keep you posted on the use of funds and Tim’s progress going forward.
