Friday Oct 23rd, 2020 Tim was admitted to LRCC where he received a devastating diagnosis of Cancer — everyone’s worst nightmare! Tim was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia.
Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is an aggressive type of Acute Myeloid Leukemia in which there are too many immature blood forming cells in the blood and bone marrow. This build up of promyelocytes leads to a shortage of normal white and red blood cells and platelets in the body, causing Tim’s body to release blood cells into his system that are immature. This results in his blood being too thin causing bleeds and too thick causing clots.
Shortly after being admitted, Tim suffered a stroke, which left a clot behind his right eye and last week Tim suffered a TIA (mini stroke). During his 6 week stay in the hospital, Tim had many blood transfusions and he suffered excruciating headache pain constantly. The aggressive chemotherapy he received and the residual effects of the stroke, has caused a left eye deficit, resulting in eye sight issues and he has some short term memory concerns. Tim is facing a very long road ahead of him for stroke rehab and for additional chemotherapy treatments. Tim’s chemo regime requires travelling back and forth to London daily for 28 days, followed by rest for 28 days for the next 8 months.
Tim is a single dad of two concerned, loving boys, Carson (18) and Cayden (13), who are his world. Tim is anxious to get better to do the things he loves the most and to get his life back. His family and friends have rallied around him since day one, supporting him, cheering him on and helping him down this long road to recovery.
