Dear Friends,

On February 1st, 2021, our friend, Dad and rock n roll Grandad Tim Hinkley was diagnosed with throat cancer. 

Tim was connected with an excellent oncology team in his home city of Nashville and they immediately leapt into action to install a port in his neck and chest so they could start him on a very aggressive radiation and chemotherapy treatment plan. The side effects of the treatment are very intense and after a couple of weeks, Tim could no longer eat or consume anything by mouth. After losing a considerable amount of weight in a very short space of time, the doctors decided that a feeding tube was necessary. Tim underwent another surgery to have the tube inserted into his abdomen. It has taken some time to get used to but Tim can now absorb much needed nutrients and calories and has shown a lot of improvement. He will likely have the feeding tube for several months. 

Medical treatment in America is some of the best in the world so he’s in the right place, however, the costs are significant and any contributions would be gratefully received. 

Tim has a few more weeks of radiation and chemotherapy and the side effects will last for some months after treatment ends. It’s going to be a long road, but Tim is staying as positive as ever and is determined to beat it and get out to California to meet his new granddaughter and see his grandson. We will be posting updates here so you can follow his journey.
