Tim Crowley Cancer Fund (Multiple Myeloma)
Spende geschützt
My father, Tim Crowley, was diagnosed with a rare bone marrow cancer a few months ago — Multiple Myeloma.
There's good news — While incurable, there's treatments that can knock it into lasting remission. In fact, a family friend is living well 15 years after getting the same diagnosis. My Dad, always wise enough to follow a friend's recommendation, is getting the same treatment from the doctor that pioneered it and is a world leader in the field — Dr Bart Barlogie . The next year or so will have some unpleasant times for my Dad — chemo, stem cell transplants, and days when he's going to feel exceedingly awful — but the outlook after that is good so far.
There's not-so-good news — And this is where we need your help. The cost of treatment, while largely covered by insurance, is still steep. In addition, it requires multiple trips to and from NYC, as well as transportation, food, and lodging for the portions of treatment that are outpatient rather than under admission to the hospital. There's the added cost of family traveling with him for support, helping get from airports to hospitals to appointments, etc. Since his starting treatment, he's already gone through $6,000 out-of-pocket and there's many more expenses coming.
My Dad's always been a "pull myself up by the bootstraps" guy who never likes to ask for help, so I've chosen to create this now, as he's just checked into Mt Sinai for 3 weeks of chemo and stem cell therapy and is physically unable to murder me for asking for help on his behalf. While he'll likely give me the business over this, I can promise you that he, his wife Jan, and the rest of his loved ones will all be so very grateful for any help you can contribute — even if it's not financial. Money certainly helps, but even sharing this fundraiser with others, sending him a kind message, or reaching out to his family in support. It all helps.
If this fundraiser generates more than its goal or what's needed to keep my Dad and Jan solvent, the excess funds will be donated to The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
Thank you all for reading this.
