Tim Brumley's Stroke Fund

7/22/2020 Update

It's been a really busy day, but we had GREAT news today.

After reviewing Tim's case the insurance company agreed to pay for inpatient rehabilitation treatment.  Earlier this afternoon Tim was transported via ambulance to the Touro Rehabilitation Center in New Orleans. While this is great news, we all realize Tim has a tough road ahead, but as said, he's a fighter.

We are leaving Tim's GoFund me page up because Tim needs everyone's and anyone's help.  There are many many expenses ahead, we have no idea what his medical bills will be, nor do we have a full grasp on his financial position at this time.  It's also too early to say if or when he might be able to return to work.

As stated early, Tim has not worked in some time, so there are bills to be paid, and there will undoubtedly be legal bills ahead.  Any funds collected will be used to aid in legal council as needed, care for his property, and support for him as he navigates his rehabilitation.

Thanks to everyone for your support.

Family, friends, helpers, and neighbors of Tim Brumley,

On the night of Thursday, June 25, Tim suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke.  Tim had emergency surgery to repair the ruptured vessels in his brain.  As a result of the stroke he had severe swelling in his brain and was unconscious for 10 days.  The initial findings from the medical team were less than positive.  However, Tim has been a fighter all his life.

On Friday, July 3 his ventilator was removed and in typical Tim fashion, he did not give up.  Tim started breathing on his own and 3 days later he opened his eyes and waved.  Since then, Tim has continued to fight and makes small steps forward with the occasional step back.  Tim will need professional assistance and rehabilitation if he is to make significant progress in his recovery.

Tim has been accepted by the Touro Rehabilitation Center Inpatient Stroke Specialty  program in New Orleans.  Unfortunately, his insurance has denied the claim based on a neurologist’s report that Tim will not make any improvements and never be communicative.

HOWEVER, there are things the neurologist has not seen.  For example, he has not seen Tim:

Answer questions by shaking his head yes or no.
Ask for his iPad and remind his daughter to have his Mom bring it to the hospital.
FaceTime with friends and family and smile.
Cry when he becomes frustrated or sad.
Speak to the physical therapist when they ask him questions.

We are at a point where legal authority needs to be in place to make decisions outside the emergency medical realm.  As most of you know, Tim has spent most of his life working in the energy industry.  An industry subject to many booms and busts.  The industry has been in a bust for the past several years and Tim has been unemployed much of that time.  He has bills to be paid, steps need to be taken to protect his property, and to fight for his for rehabilitation – this is looking more and more like a legal battle itself.  Once any legal battles are over and his space in a rehabilitation facility is secured, any unused funds will go to help maintain his property and provide for him during his recovery period.

Talks about finances and money are always awkward at best.  If possible, if you have the means, we are asking you:  Tim’s friends, his neighbors, his family to help him fight the fight of his life.
