Tilon Mast Heart Transplant

Tilon is a single 20 year old young man living in Downing Wisconsin. His parents are Phil and Debra Mast. Tilon was born with a genetic disorder called Proprionic acidemia. This condition was not diagnosed until the spring of 2020.

When Tilon was 9 an irregularity was found in his heart beat. He was taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital to be seen by a Cardiologist. His heart seemed to hold its own until  the age of 16 when he was on a youth outing and was playing a running game late at night. He collapsed and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and then transported by aircraft to the Arkansas children’s.
There the doctors installed a defibrillator then put his heart out of rhythm (via drugs) so as to test the defibrillator to put it back in rhythm. His heart did not respond even with the use of paddles, the strongest electrical shock they had. The doctor then used chest compressions and his heart began beating but vitals were poor.
The doctor asked permission from Tilon‘s parents to put him on life-support to stabilize him. Permission was granted but a power much greater than man was on call. As hundreds of believers sprinkled over the globe lifted there voices in petition, our great God heard and touched Tilon’s life and suddenly his vitals stabilized without mechanical assistance!! The Dr was awed and the parents hearts over flowed  with humble gratitude.
Nearly 3 years later Tilon was seen by another cardiologist in Wisconsin who discovered his ejection fraction was down to 25%. He was then seen by a genetics team in Minneapolis Minnesota and was tested for Proprionic acidemia which tested positive. He was told to limit his protein intake and take l-carnitine.

Tilon felt well and stayed quite active even with a low heart function. He was asked to teach school in Auburn Nebraska and so moved there the first of September. He loved his new job in the classroom, but soon developed symptoms of heart failure. After several visits to the ER and being diagnosed with congestive heart failure, his ejection fraction having dropped to 10%,he was transferred to Minneapolis to be closer home as he awaits a heart transplant.

Prior to beginning preparations for a transplant he had to take a COVID test for which he tested positive. So due to hospital policy he was placed in Quarantine for two week. No family was allowed to come see him Except for on Thanksgiving day they allowed his mother to be there for one hour.

He is battling fluid build up due to his heart ejection level being so low and has to stay in a semi upright position to keep the fluid down.

Tilon has five brothers, three which are still at home, and two married. He has two married sisters. Tilon‘s older brother Travis passed away on a youth outing 11 years ago from heart failure. The parents are now told that Travis also had propionic acidemia . Three of the remaining siblings have tested positive as carriers but do not have it. Both parents must be carriers to pass on to the children.
Propionic acidemia is treatable if detected soon enough. Since this was left unchecked too long it created an acid buildup in the heart which damaged the heart. It is now enlarged and has scar tissue beyond repair.
The hospital is projecting a SELF PAY cost of $600,000-$800,000. Anti rejection drugs will be $2,000-$3,000 per month.
The cost looks daunting. But God and His people are greater!
God bless you for sharing monetarily as well as your prayers!

These funds will be transferred to a banking account setup specifically for this cause by Tilon’s brother and Gofundme campaign manager Trenton Mast.  The funds will be used for the expenses of the transplant ,occurred expenses, or expenses that continue to occur. Trenton lives in Boyceville, WI near Tilon’s home.
