Til Valhalla: Honoring Dustin “Dusty” Carpenter
Donation protected
Dustin Lee Carpenter, known to all as "Dusty," was a free spirit who could easily connect with anyone he met—he never knew a stranger and lived life on his own terms. As a husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Dusty left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was an accomplished EOD technician and trainer, a professional tattoo artist, painter, and musician. Dusty loved sharing his light and talents with the world at every opportunity.
On January 29th, 2025, Dusty tragically lost his silent battle with PTSD and related trauma at the age of 37. He is survived by his loving wife, Krista, their two daughters, Elena (4) and Isla (3) of Melbourne, as well as his eldest daughter Audrey (14) of Texas. He also leaves behind many family members and friends in both Australia and the U.S., including his parents and sister.
Dusty served in the United States Army from 2007 to 2013 with the 789th EOD Company, followed by continued service through EOD contracts until 2019, completing four tours in total.
Dusty was a man of many talents and passions. His creativity knew no bounds—whether playing guitar and singing at public venues, tattooing, or painting, he always found ways to express his art. He was known for offering tattoos for free just to spread joy, and for constantly giving to others without expecting anything in return. Dusty loved being a father more than anything in the world. He never missed an opportunity to share stories about his three daughters and how amazing they are.
Dusty was generous, kind, and thoughtful. His friends speak of his unwavering support and positive advice, always encouraging those around him to keep going and never give up. He was a huge supporter of others in need, whether that meant giving free training at the gym or teaching people to play guitar. He often posted videos promoting self-care and mental well-being.
In the wake of this tragic loss, many have asked how they can help. First, I encourage anyone experiencing mental health struggles to please reach out for support through these resources:
U.S. Resources:
Australian Resources:
Additionally, support can be directed to the EOD Warriors Foundation, a cause that has been incredibly helpful during this trying time and one that has several resources for active duty, veterans, and relatives.
Dusty lived the last nine and a half years in Australia with the most loving and supportive wife, Krista, who stood by him every step of the way. She literally held him until his last breath, surrounded by his mother and sister. It is my intention to help support Krista, his children, and our family during these incredibly difficult weeks and months ahead.
In the short term, assistance is needed to cover bicontinental funeral and memorial expenses, including travel arrangements when possible. Funds will also help Krista and the family with mortgage, bills, and groceries, giving them time to grieve without the added burden of everyday stressors.
Long term, any additional funds raised will be placed in trust or savings for Dusty’s children, ensuring they have support for their future needs.
On behalf of Dusty’s family, we extend our deepest gratitude for any amount donated, whether to this fund or to one of the listed foundations in his name. Please share Dusty’s story far and wide, in hopes of encouraging others who are silently fighting their own battles.
