Tika’s Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Kira and I’m raising funds to help my dog Tika have life-saving surgery. She is currently at the animal hospital for fluid in her lungs. She had an abscess that ruptured causing pus and fluid to drain into her lungs causing her to be unable to breathe properly. The cause is unknown but likely due to infection or ingestion of a foreign object. She needs surgery to remove the abscess in her lung. She is only three years old and we got her from a rescue shelter two years ago. She is the sweetest dog and has made our lives whole. All money donated will go directly to cover her medical costs (x rays, bloodwork, CT scan, the surgery, oxygen support, and 8 nights at the animal hospital). She is our whole world and would appreciate any support we can get with taking care of our girl and allowing her to live a long life ♥️ The story: Our sweet girl Tika has been at the animal hospital in Fargo since Thursday. Last Monday (Memorial Day), she started to show signs of sickness. We brought her in to the emergency vet and she was given some medications. We were supposed to bring her back to the vet the following day if her energy levels and appetite did not improve. Well, they did not. Tuesday and Wednesday, she was extremely lethargic, had a high fever, was not eating, was peeing every 30 minutes, and had labored breathing. We got her into the vet Thursday where they did a chest X-ray and found out she had a ton of fluid in her lungs - they referred her to the emergency animal clinic in Fargo. In Fargo, they used a needle to try and drain the fluid - they ended up getting 3 cups worth of pus/fluid out of her lungs. This worked but the pus and fluid reappeared overnight. Tika was then given chest tubes to allow for continuous drainage and was put in an oxygen cage to support her breathing. A CT scan was performed and the results indicated that she has an abscess in her right lung lobe that burst and continues to create pus and fluid. The cause is unknown, mostly likely due to an undetected infection or ingestion of a foreign object. Currently, she is off oxygen, her breathing is much better, and her appetite has returned. She does still have chest tubes though as the infection in her lungs continues to generate pus that needs to be drained. She does need surgery to remove that damaged lung lobe which will allow for the fluid and pus to decrease and eventually disappear. Surgery is major but the prognosis is good. The vet says for her condition she is doing extremely well and hopes that surgery will go smoothly. Surgery is currently scheduled for Tuesday morning. We are asking for you all to please keep Tika in your thoughts and prayers.update (6/5): We got to go visit her yesterday. She continues to need chest tubes to allow for continuous draining of the fluid in her lungs. Otherwise, her lungs fill back up with pus and fluid quickly. Her appetite is back, she is off supportive oxygen, and she has gained more of her energy back. Her vitals and bloodwork are all good. The vet says for her diagnosis (Pyothorax) she is doing as well as she can be. Surgery is still the best option though as her lungs continue to fill with fluid if they aren’t being drained. She will go in for surgery tomorrow or Wednesday.
