Tika's Continuing Education!

Studying in the Caribbean has a profound effect on my work as a full time dancer, inspiring and enabling me to immerse and then share my unique perspective and passion for music and dance with my community here in the Bay Area and beyond. Through my work I provide a conduit and for what many students is the first step into the dances of the African diaspora. I believe my own continuing education is imperative in supporting this offering to my students.
Through this campaign I am reaching out to those in my community that enjoy and benefit from my work and want to support me in deepening its cultivation, so I can give as fully as I possible when I return! For me every detail of life is impactful to the work I do. Listening, speaking, walking the streets and interacting with the extraordinary circle of artists I learn from in, brings keen insight to my learning experience and deeply informs my creative process. I hold the intention of raising the funds required for a longer study and travel immersion during July, the slowest time in the year for my regular classes. I will continue my education with: Campania Ban RaRa and Raices Profundas as well as working intensively in private instruction sessions from some of my master teachers. I will also attend tambores/ceremonies which inform all of life and dance in the regions I will be visiting. My classes start with an  Advanced Folkloric program from July 1 - 8 followed by Salsa/Rumba program July 10 through 19th, both of whom employ the previously mentioned dance companies. I hope to raise funds to stay on after these two intensives and continue with private instruction through July 24th. I will need to cover expenses here in America and in abroad, including the second course of study to make this journey happen.
If you can contribute $300 I can offer 2 private instruction classes tailored to your dance needs. For a contribution of $800, find out about having me teach and DJ for your private party/event!  Contact me for details regarding these options.

Those of you who work with me on a regular basis know that I am committed to my dance community here at home, which requires me to continue to evolve and enrich my own education and development as a dancer. To do this work well I must remain challenged, inspired, and creative. From my perspective, there is no other way to do this work but to walk on the land and be surrounded by the people in the places of origin responsible for my work. All funds spent on my travels will go to teachers and artists who live as I do here yet with so much less... It is very inspiring to honor artists by paying them what their talents truly merit as I seek to understand and embody the beating heart within this incredible lineage of music and dance.

THANK YOU so much for considering any donation of any amount.
With love and appreciation, Tika
