Op 9 januari werden Eva en Rocky voor het eerst ouders van hun zoon Mick. Na een zwangerschap die zonder problemen was verlopen, keken zij vol liefde en verwachting uit naar zijn geboorte. Wat één van de mooiste momenten van hun leven had moeten zijn, veranderde in een nachtmerrie.

Tijdens de bevalling ging het ernstig mis. Door de manier waarop is gehandeld, ontstonden zware complicaties. Na aanvullend onderzoek werd duidelijk hoe groot de schade was. Door ruw handelen had Mick ernstige hersenschade opgelopen, zijn schedel was op twee plekken gebroken en er waren bloedingen in zijn hersenen ontstaan. Door een langdurig zuurstoftekort werd onherstelbare schade veroorzaakt.

Daarna volgde het gesprek waar geen enkele ouder ooit op voorbereid kan zijn. De artsen moesten Eva en Rocky vertellen dat een leven voor Mick niet mogelijk was. Met intens verdriet, maar vanuit pure en onvoorwaardelijke liefde voor hun zoon, namen zij de zwaarste beslissing die ouders kunnen nemen. Op 13 januari 2026 is Mick, pijnloos en veilig in de armen van zijn ouders, van de beademing gehaald. Daar blies hij zijn laatste adem uit.

Eva en Rocky hebben slechts enkele dagen met hun zoon mogen doorbrengen. Dagen vol liefde, nabijheid en afscheid, momenten die zij voor altijd in hun hart meedragen. Het verdriet is enorm, maar hun liefde voor Mick blijft voor altijd.

Het verlies van Mick staat niet op zichzelf. In de nacht van 9 januari kwam Eva met een gezond, levenslustig lichaam het ziekenhuis binnen, klaar om haar kind te ontmoeten. Toen zij het ziekenhuis verliet, was haar leven voorgoed veranderd. Eva kampt met ernstige medische complicaties en zij is momenteel volledig afhankelijk van de zorg van anderen. Haar herstel zal naar verwachting zeer lang duren en het is onzeker of volledig herstel mogelijk is. Rust, intensieve zorg en tijd zijn nu essentieel.

Ook voor Rocky heeft deze periode ingrijpende gevolgen. Hij is volledig mantelzorger voor Eva en probeert tegelijkertijd het verlies van zijn zoon te dragen. Hij is zelfstandig ondernemer met een eenmanszaak. Hoewel hij dacht alles goed geregeld te hebben dekt de verzekering alleen een schamel maandelijks inkomen. De vaste lasten van het bedrijf zoals de hypotheek, verzekeringen en andere lopende verplichtingen, lopen onverminderd door. Werken is op dit moment niet mogelijk, terwijl de financiële druk blijft toenemen.

Eva en Rocky hebben beiden een uitvaartverzekering afgesloten. Ondanks deze voorzorg bleek deze verzekering niet toereikend om de volledige kosten van de uitvaart van Mick te dekken. Hierdoor zijn er juist in deze kwetsbare periode extra financiële zorgen ontstaan.

Juist nu is het van groot belang dat Eva en Rocky de ruimte krijgen om samen te rouwen, te herstellen en elkaar vast te houden, zonder de voortdurende stress en angst over geld. Waar zij alles op orde hadden en vol vertrouwen uitkeken naar het ouderschap, is hun leven door omstandigheden buiten hun macht volledig op zijn kop gezet.

Daarom is deze crowdfundingactie gestart.

Met deze actie willen wij Eva en Rocky helpen om de komende maanden financieel te overbruggen, zodat zij zich kunnen richten op wat nu het allerbelangrijkste is: rouw, herstel en het leren leven met het verlies van hun zoon.

On January 9, Eva and Rocky became parents for the first time to their son Mick. After a pregnancy without complications, they looked forward to his birth with love and anticipation. What should have been one of the most beautiful moments of their lives turned into a nightmare.

During the delivery, things went terribly wrong. Due to the way the situation was handled, severe complications arose. Further examinations revealed the extent of the damage. As a result of rough handling, Mick suffered severe brain damage, his skull was fractured in two places, and bleeding occurred in his brain. Prolonged oxygen deprivation caused irreversible damage.

What followed was the conversation no parent is ever prepared for. The doctors had to tell Eva and Rocky that life was not possible for Mick. With profound sorrow, but guided by pure and unconditional love for their son, they made the hardest decision any parent can face. On January 13, 2026, Mick was taken off life support, painlessly and safely in the arms of his parents. There, he took his final breath.

Eva and Rocky were only able to spend a few days with their son—days filled with love, closeness, and farewell, moments they will carry in their hearts forever. The grief is immense, but their love for Mick will last forever.

The loss of Mick does not stand alone. On the night of January 9, Eva entered the hospital with a healthy, vibrant body, ready to meet her child. When she left the hospital, her life was forever changed. Eva is suffering from severe medical complications and is currently fully dependent on the care of others. Her recovery is expected to take a very long time, and it is uncertain whether full recovery is possible. Rest, intensive care, and time are now essential.

This period has also had profound consequences for Rocky. He is the full-time caregiver for Eva while simultaneously trying to cope with the loss of his son. He is a self-employed entrepreneur with a sole proprietorship. Although he believed everything was well arranged, his insurance provides only a modest monthly income. Meanwhile, fixed business expenses such as the mortgage, insurance, and other ongoing obligations continue unabated. Working is not possible at this time, while financial pressure continues to increase.

Eva and Rocky both had funeral insurance. Despite this precaution, the insurance proved insufficient to cover the full costs of Mick’s funeral. As a result, additional financial worries have arisen during this already vulnerable period.

It is crucial that Eva and Rocky are given the space to grieve together, to recover, and to hold on to one another, without the constant stress and fear about money. Where they once had everything in order and looked toward parenthood with confidence, their lives have been completely turned upside down by circumstances beyond their control.

For this reason, this crowdfunding campaign has been launched. With this campaign, we aim to help Eva and Rocky financially through the coming months, so they can focus on what matters most right now: grieving, healing, and learning to live with the loss of their son.
