Tiffany's Kidneys Transplant

My name is Aurelise Rodriguez. I like to share the story of my niece Tiffany Rodriguez and her mother (my sister), Teofila Mercedes Rodriguez. I have witnessed the constant battle they have faced with a genetic disease called Cystic Fibrosis, now well known by the movie Five Feet Apart. In 2018 I organized a fundraiser through this same platform. Tiffany had her lungs destroyed by this horrible disease and urgently needed a bilateral lung transplant. Three years and eight months have passed since the lung transplant, and we find ourselves needing a new transplant, this time kidneys. Immunosuppressive drugs to prevent transplant rejection have deteriorated Tiffany's kidneys. She is being added to the kidney transplant waiting list. She is also in the process of starting dialysis as her kidney function is 14%. Once again, we find ourselves with the task of raising funds to cover the cost of transportation, housing and any medical expenses that are not covered by her insurance.

UF Shands hospital in Gainsville, Florida, is where the lung transplant took place, and it's located a 2-hour drive from Orlando, Florida, where my niece resides. It is also where the kidney transplant would take place. For the lung transplant, my sister Teófila, my nephew Elvis and Tiffany had to settle for four months in Gainsville while their father, Elvin Rodriguez, continued to work in Orlando to cover the expenses of their primary residence. Tiffany's doctors required her to settle in a place close to the hospital. After the transplant, she was expected to be hospitalized for four weeks. Upon discharge, she reported daily to UF Shands hospital for her medical check-ups. Tiffany also needed special care 24 hours a day. My sister was on leave of absence from her job to care for tiffany as a mother and nurse. All this is also expected with a kidney transplant.

Again we ask for your prayers and financial contribution. The deterioration of tiffanys kidneys has progressed faster than we imagined. Your donations will help with family expenses due to the loss of income for my sister leave of absence from her employer. Housing expenses in Gainsville, primary residence in Orlando for the four months they are expected to be there, and transportation expenses. He sido testigo de la batalla constante que ellas han tenido con una enfermedad genética llamada Fibrosis Quística, bien conocida ahora por la película Five Feet Apart. Gracias a dios en septiembre 13 del 2018 Tiffany recibió esa tan esperada llamada de que tenían unos pulmones para ella.

Ya han pasado 3 años y 8 meses desde el trasplante de pulmones y nos encontramos con la necesidad de un nuevo trasplante, esta vez de riñones. Los medicamentos inmunosupresores para evitar rechaso de trasplante han deteriorado los riñones de Tiffany y está en proceso de ser agregada a lista de espera para trasplante de riñones. También está en proceso de comenzar diálisis ya que la función de sus riñones está en 14%. Nuevamente nos encontramos con la tarea de recaudar fondos para cubrir costo de transportación, vivienda y gastos medicos.

El hospital UF Shands en Gainsville Florida es donde tomo lugar el trasplante de pulmones, y queda ubicado a 2 horas manejando desde Orlando Florida donde reside mi sobrina. Es también donde se llevaría a cabo el trasplante de riñones. Cuando el trasplante de pulmones mi hermana Teófila, mi sobrino Elvis y Tiffany tuvieron que establecerse por un periodo de 4 meses en Gainsville mientras que su padre Elvin Rodriguez continuaba trabajando en Orlando para cubrir los gastos de su residencia principal. Los médicos de Tiffany le requerían establecerse en un lugar próximo al hospital ya que después del trasplante, se esperaba que estuviese hospitalizada por 4 semanas y al ser dada de alta tenía que presentarse diariamente en el hospital UF Shands para sus chequeos médicos. A demás necesitaba de un cuidado especial las 24 horas del día, por lo que mi hermana tuvo que pedir un permiso de ausencia de su trabajo y poder estar totalmente dedicada a mi sobrina como madre y como enfermera. Todo esto también se espera con el trasplanté de riñones.

Nuevamente les pedimos de su oraciones y contribución financiera. La deterioración de los riñones ha progresado más rápido de lo que imaginábamos. Sus contribuciones ayudara con gastos familiares por la pérdida de ingresos de mi hermana que estará fuera de su trabajo para cuidar de Tiffany. Esto incluye gastos de vivienda en Gainsville y residencia primaria en orlando por los cuatro meses que se espera que esten alla y gastos de transportacion .
