In October 2023, Tiffany noticed a small growth in her breast. She did not see a doctor at this time because she did not have health insurance. It continually grew, and by March 2024, she was experiencing pain.
She went to see a primary care physician. This doctor found another mass in her left breast as well and told her she needed to get an ultrasound and mammogram done immediately.
The imaging facility only offers payment plans for people who have insurance. As a single mother of a 6 year old, Tiffany was not prepared for this kind of expense.
The radiologist confirmed the two masses, one in each breast. They are both about 8 cm, roughly the same width as your cell phone. The radiologist's report firmly states "highly suggestive of malignancy - appropriate action should be taken." Tiffany asked what it could be if it's not cancer, and she was told, "I don't think it could be anything other than cancer." Both the doctor and radiologist expressed an urgent need for biopsies so she can be set up with an oncologist by April.
Her biopsies to determine the specific type of cancer are scheduled for March 13, 2024. Biopsies have to be paid in full.
Health insurance is in the works, but it will not go into affect until April. Donations to help Tiffany with this urgent and unforeseen news are deeply appreciated.
UPDATE 5/19/24
Tiffany’s insurance was supposed to start on April 1st. For whatever reason, the date was moved to May 1st.
Throughout April her appointments were all cash pay, this included lots of bloodwork, genetic testing, and all of her appointments (for oncology, surgery, and OB/GYN).
Due to her insurance becoming effective so late in the game, all her more expensive appointments/procedures (CTs, Nuclear Bone Scans, MRIs, etc), that have had to wait for insurance, have been one after the other and most times, multiple appointments a day in a rush to start Chemo before June. Due to the rush of appointments, her work hours have been reduced.
Tiffany will have surgery on Wednesday to place the port in her chest for Chemo. It will be in place for a minimum of one year; she should start Chemo by the end of this week or beginning of next.
If you’re able or feel compelled to help, it so appreciated. Thank you to everyone that has donated. Even just sharing the link helps. ❤️
