This is Chalistia (“Tia” to those who knew and loved her). Tia was born on December 1, 2008. She was from the Fort Apache Reservation in Whiteriver, Arizona, a teenage girl full of excitement and life. She loved the outdoors, spending time with her family, painting, and all things Stitch.

Tia was brutally murdered in the fall of 2025 when she was 16 years old. She had her whole life ahead of her, but she became one more victim of the ongoing Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) crisis before she even had the chance to graduate high school.

As is often the case with MMIP victims, a year has passed and there has been no arrest. No one has been held accountable for her murder. This is the MMIP crisis. There are currently, by very conservative BIA estimates, 4,200 MMIP cases that have gone unsolved. Indigenous people make up less than 2% of the current U.S. population, yet 4,200 of them have gone missing or have been murdered in recent years, and their families have been tormented by a lack of answers and a lack of justice.

The anniversary of Tia’s murder is coming up in November. In Apache culture, a memorial dinner is a spiritual necessity where her family and those who helped with the 3-day burial process are fed, a ceremony where they are appreciated and reassured that this child’s life mattered. Imagine sitting with your murdered child for 3 days surrounded by Stitch blankets, posters, and loveys. Let it sink in. Look at her picture again.

In the next 24 hours we need to raise as much as possible to help pay for Tia's memorial dinner, which is also critical to keeping her name in the media and keeping the pressure on law enforcement to hold the person who stole her life accountable. Please help us bring as many people out as possible to Tia’s event in November. The more people we can feed, the more people we can bring to the Walk, the more the media will care, and the more law enforcement will work to get justice for her. Do for this child and her family what you would want someone to do for your child or for you.
