Tiana's Family

Donation protected
The Phipps family suddenly and tragically lost their precious baby, Tiana, on the 24th of April. Those that knew Tiana, knew what a beacon of light she was...and those that know her parents know where she got that from. They will be facing a great financial hardship along with their insurmountable loss; including medical bills, funeral costs, and decreased in pay due to time taken off of work.  Please consider donating money towards one of the most amazing families that we have ever met.

 Quote from mom, Denise:
"Although my pregnancy went well, soon after she was born we learned that she would need major surgery to connect her esophagus to her stomach. There was less than 50% chance that the procedure would work. In other words, there was a chance that she would need to eat from a feeding tube for quite some time if not for the rest of her life. So in less than 24 hours after her birth, she was whisked off to surgery. As we waited in my hospital room, all we could do was pray and wait. After a few hours, we got the awesome news that the procedure went well. This was the first hurdle. Tiana would spend 4 months in the nicu. While there, she would slowly grow from a little nugget to a happy senior nicu baby."

Also, Tiana's mother dealt with some of her own health struggles during this time, including a blood clot in her lung that caused her to be hospitalized after Tiana was born.

Tiana went home on a feeding tube & suction and with mom's support she made it over many hurdles, but she continues to have esophageal issues. Tiana had many "coughing spells" and the surgeries had narrowed her esophagus too much cause aspiration issues. Tiana was able to have her feeding tube removed but would need additional surgery for her esophagus.

On 4/22/19, Tiana suddenly stopped breathing after bouts of coughing. Her mother did CPR until EMS arrived but it wasn't enough. She was transferred from Bayshore Hospital to Jersey Shore Hospital via helicopter. The family was told that her brain went without sufficient oxygen for too long and that she has swelling on her brain.I'm totally devastated. Unfortunately the final brain evaluation on 4/24/19 confirmed no activity and her time of death was 11:45am.

The Phipps family are a family that never asks for help and even in this tragic moment, Tiana's parents, Denise and Tirell, decided to donate their precious babies organs so that other babies could live. They also asked for loved ones to donate to the NJ Sharing Network and St Jude's, never thinking that they were the ones in need of support.

Tiana's mother not only was raising 4 children, one with medical needs and working in Manhattan; but she also spent her free time supporting other NICU moms transitioning out of the NICU and volunteered on an advisory board for Monmouth Medical Hospital to help create a better environment for all families.

As someone that had the pleasure of knowing Tiana, she was a beacon of light just like her parents. I can't think of a family more deserving of support.
