Tia's Dancing Dream

We would like to introduce you to our wonderful Tia as she is unable to introduce herself. Tia is 7 years old and has Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, she can't talk or walk, she has epilepsy, muscle spasms, she can't chew, grinds her teeth and has no bladder control. Although Tia has all of these issues, she is an amazing child. She never focuses on what she cannot do, only what she can do and combined with her dogged determination, has achieved far more than anyone thought possible.
We are trying to raise £16,000 for the Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy operation as this is not available for Tia due to her level of disability. Although this is a very long operation with risks attached, the concern is that if she continues to grow at the rate that she is, her muscles will be cut leaving her with huge movement restrictions and a very poor quality of life. In clinical trials, the SDR operation has a 100% success rate in improving quality of life. After the operation, we are hoping that she will walk and maybe even dance! There are other possible benefits including: learning to chew, sleep improvement as she will have less muscle spasms, she will be in less pain and may stop grinding her teeth, her posture will improve and some parents report improvements in speech and bladder control. Any improvements would make a huge difference to her.
She is a very sociable child and has many friends. She has an infectious laugh and a sense of mischief, rolling with laughter when any of her friends are pushing boundaries. Tia's passion is music, she is either dancing on her knees or securely attached to one of us. She also loves to dress up, her favourite outfit is a yellow Children in Need dress which she wants to wear all of the time, she is also a theme park diva. She also loves our dog Hugo who will also be fundraising in his own way.
All of the money raised will go to the operation and any additional physiotherapy she will need.
