Mila is 14 years old, she just started attending Stamford high school on Drummond road, took up playing the Trumpet, was making friends and coming home talking about how funny and sweet and nice they were. She was making a clay pumpkin intense burner in art and was so excited to finish it and bring it home to me…. Mila is one of the sweetest kindest people you’d ever meet, not a mean bone in her body. Mila wanted to make everyone smile and feel happy and accepted, to make people feel like they belong, matter. If Mila saw neighbours taking out garbage she would help, someone broke glass and Mila insisted on cleaning it before someone ran over it and got a flat tire. She taught her brother how to ride his bike, she helped teach her baby brother how to walk, when asked if Mila and I were close I respond with “the closest!” We did absolutely everything together from house hold chores to groceries to making Halloween props and decorating for Christmas and baking and laundry…. Mila referred to herself as my mini me, and she was and still is… always and forever!
Mila was so excited to finish her art project that she insisted on leaving early for school on October 30th and her older brother kept telling her not yet not yet until he couldn’t bare making her wait anymore so they set out to school. Mila is on camera, she stopped… she looked both ways and she began to cross the street no cars in sight…. My son walking just ahead of her when a woman speeding, that also had a 3 foot obstructed view to her windshield from having decorations on her windshield struck my baby at the centre line, mila was almost there…. Almost out of harms way. Just inches to safety in front of her school… when she was struck and sent airborne down the hill head first into a staircase near summer street; head first.
Mila sustained injuries that majority of people do not survive. Acute subdural hematoma, diffuse axonal brain injury…. She suffered strokes. Her leg bones and knee broken, her arm bones and elbow broken, her pelvis broken. Mila developed two pulmonary embolisms (clots in her lungs)
she had both sides of her skull removed.
shes had sunken skin flap syndrome and graham negative infection and brain bleed after surgery, in a coma, on a trache. Mila gets food and meds through a g tube in her stomach.
mila has now had 13 surgeries…. And she has defied all odds time and time again.
roughly 25% of the right side of Milas brain is classed as “dead”
after over 260 days in hospital Mila has now made her way to a rehabilitation centre in Toronto. We don’t know how long she will remain there for.
im told if I’m not moved into an accessible home I won’t be allowed to bring mila home, my baby…. My world! Her three brothers struggle more than anyone can imagine. My three year old begs me to bring his Mimi home. Prays every night for god to heal her.
everyone is lost.
everyone destroyed.
we just want to be with mila during rehab and the desperately want and need her to come home when allowed.
please help our family if you are able.
please help us bring Mila home.
for updates on Mila you can look at my Facebook

i post how strong and resilient Mila is, her desire to live, her fight and drive to get home.

also please clear your windshield.
please don’t speed.
and if you would be willing, please write to your local mayor or mpp asking for actual consequences for people that do this as there isn’t really any in canada!

im told Its in my best interest to fundraise due to all of the mounting costs, to give you an idea mila is going to need
24/7 nursing/health care aids… it takes 2 people to change her, reposition her, bath her, etc
a lift
a wheelchair accessible van (she’s going to have a ton of apts at McMaster hospital).
hospital bed
briefs and supplies
gtubes and syringes and medicines and formula
a sling to lift her
a wheelchair
other devices to help her stand and weight bare.
machines for feeding, oxygen and heart rate monitors
never ending therapies speech, occupational, physio, ted socks,
special creams and lotions and wound care supplies
ramps
there are some funds available through insurance but when looking at costs it’s already not enough for what she requires, it’s going to very quickly disappear….. after being told to fundraise I considered one type but it’s illegal, I don’t qualify for a license to do one….. between being with her as much as humanly possible and still being a mom to my three boys….. I wish I could it all. I wish I didn’t have to beg…. But I will do absolutely whatever necessary to bring my baby home.
this iwill never get easier, the pain and sadness and desperation, the ripple effects will never ever end…. Please, I am begging you… if there is anything you can do…. To help my family, I will forever be grateful to you.
everything helps

please Help bring my baby girl home.
thank you from my family to yours.
