A Movement of Remembrance, Art, and Renewal

I am Stephanie Big Eagle, an enrolled member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe, author of Thunderbird Rising, traditional handpoke tattoo artist, and mother.

The Thunderbird Rising Shield Campaign is a movement born from a lifetime of endurance, exile, and return. It represents transformation through art and remembrance and the ability to rise renewed, even after years of enduring distortion and adversity.

This fundraiser exists to support my ongoing work as an artist and writer during a time of profound transition after a lifetime of overcoming distortion, misrepresentation, and loss. It also intends to cover legal fees related to an evolving defamation and cyberstalking case.

Many who follow my work or have read my memoir, Thunderbird Rising, know that the recent waves of defamation I've experienced did not appear in isolation. They landed on top of an entire lifetime shaped by systemic distortion and oppression. Living beneath that weight for so long has taken a deep toll, and while I’ve always turned pain into purpose through creative expression and action, this chapter calls for something different: creation intertwined with rest as a sacred form of healing, a state that I have never allowed nor asked for before.

The Thunderbird Rising Shield Campaign exists so that I can continue to create, write, and restore my strength without having to fight constant battles for legitimacy. It offers those who know my story, and those who have also walked through their own fires, the chance to stand beside me in this next phase of renewal. It allows my art and creative efforts to be what inspires others to support me, rather than having to push myself to limits that I no longer wish or deserve to carry alone.

Every contribution helps me rebuild stability, sustain my art and writing, and continue the work of transforming survival into remembrance and creation, not just for myself, but for global communities. Contributions help sustain the creation of art, storytelling, and spiritual works that uplift others facing similar challenges of misrepresentation, loss, or upheaval.
