I would like to thank you in advance for taking the time out of your busy schedule to read this letter and consider our needs as I write to you on behalf of the Thunder Sports Club soccer team to request a donation for our upcoming soccer season.

Thunder Sports Club is a part of ISSA (Illinois State Soccer Association) and it is currently a part of the PSL (Premier Soccer League) in Chicagoland. The team was created in 2001 and is largely made up of Assyrians who came to the United States of America due to conflict in the Middle East. Soccer to them was their heart and soul that gave and still gives them a sense of belonging.  

Today, Thunder Sports Club still thrives as one of the few Assyrian soccer teams in the Chicagoland area. The teams core remains Assyrian, which is supplemented with a diverse group that includes South Americans and Iranians. Today, Thunder Sports Club not only serves as a soccer team, but it also serves a bigger purpose. The team is a community unto itself. Players have a unified language, soccer, and that is what brings us together. Players who have joined the team have made lifelong friends. Assyrian players who have joined the team from conflict countries have a sense of belonging due to the oneness the team creates and the core being Assyrian. Many of the Assyrian players who left their county to come to the United States have gone on to advance their education and obtained degrees and further. They attribute their success to having a local team they can call home.

While the club has grown beyond its Assyrian heritage, it still serves to help foster and maintain a sense of community. Today, the team is largely self-funded. The current situation we find ourselves in makes our request for donations even more painful as we seek to keep the team and its spirit alive.

Thunder Sports Club as a representative of the Assyrian community in Chicago are asking for your support in maintaining the team and supporting our community for future Assyrian generations.
