Total Hip Replacement for Lexi
Lexi is a sweet, loving, cuddly year and a half year-old black Labrador Retriever. Recently, we, Lexi's parents, noticed a popping sound coming from her hips. After a vet examination and x-rays, it was determined that Lexi had severe hip dysplasia and would need total hip replacement surgery for at least one, and possibly both, of her hips. She was then referred to the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario, to see the specialists there.
While we do have pet insurance for Lexi, it has capped out and will not cover all of the surgery expenses, recovery, and rehab that she may need. Each hip will cost roughly $6,000, with another $2,000 for an MRI and $2,000 budgeted for complications that may arise.
We love Lexi more than anything else and she is the light of our lives. She gives us cuddles after a hard day, kisses when we're sad, and lots of love in the form of tail wags and smiles. We would do anything to help Lexi live her best life, including expensive surgery.
This surgery, while expensive, will help Lexi have full use of her hips for the rest of her life. Before undergoing surgery, Lexi will also need to have an MRI performed on her spine. Once the MRI is complete, the total hip replacement surgery will take place in 6-8 weeks. The surgery includes a 3-5 day hospital stay but has a 95% success rate. Lexi will need to recover for 4-6 months, but afterwards, she will be back to running the trails and playing with her best doggo friends!
The goal of this Go Fund Me page is to raise money to help with the expenses for Lexi's surgery. Whatever you can give to help us help Lexi, even a small amount, will go a long way and we are extremely grateful for your support, love, and help.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Lexi's story and for your donation, no amount of thanks will ever be enough to show our gratitude.
We understand that everyone may not be in the position to donate - we just ask that you take a moment to send positive thoughts to Lexi as she begins to undergo this process and if you could share this with any other dog lovers in your life, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Love,
Derrick, Jordi, Lexi, and her kitten brother, Gary
