The trooper who cried WOLF.

In December 2022 something incredible happened. Something that we never thought possible. Our beloved guard dog Inja just may have went on a date with a Wild Alaskan Wolf(unbeknownst to us). We proceeded to be proud human parents of 11 tiny pups. Time went by and we raised the tiny creatures uncertain of who the sire was. They were loved and snuggled by visitors and guests to 35 mile Haines Ak. They were tame and amazing and socialized! Sure there are wolves and coyotes right in our back yard, and yes rumors went around town, it was a mystery. But if you knew Inja the mama dog, then you knew her hatred for Wolves! It didn’t seem possible.

Some pups were rehomed to loving owners, and four months later some were still here in a sanctuary of their own on our remote 20 acre property outside of Haines Ak. This is where the story takes a twist. This is where the Alaska State Trooper cried “Wolf!” One of the owners grew curious of what the pups lineage might be and did a home DNA test only to find her pup might be part wolf. Of course we were willing to DNA test in order to find the real truth.

At this point in the story we begin to learn all kinds of interesting facts. And of course if you live in Alaska you’re always told everyone’s dog is part wolf! But turns out it’s not allowed! We willingly took any pups back into our custody and began to brainstorm, how do we get these guys to a legal home or sanctuary so that they don’t meet their ends by people who don’t love or understand them!

Alaska Fish and Game and the Alaska State Troopers are now involved. We must shelter the pups for 4-6 weeks while we await their fate. They say they are attempting to find placement in a Hybrid Sanctuary but everything is unconfirmed. Without a confirmed place to go we fear the worst. We have decided it would be better to try our hardest to find them homes while we still have a chance. We have been informed that the cost of care and transportation will fall on our shoulders, an expense that could be great.

The money we raise will go towards vaccinations, rabies shots, health certificates, dog food, kennels, transportation to their new lawful homes and continued care. The states where hybrids are illegal are, Alaska, Hawaii, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Wyoming.
