Thrill the World Ajijic - 2023

Donation protected
THRILL THE WORLD” is an annual worldwide simultaneous dance of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Here in the Lake Chapala area of Mexico, we are celebrating our 13th Anniversary, where Zombies, young and old, Mexican and Expats, learn the dance and raise money for local charities.

Thrill the World Ajijic is the largest group of participants in the entire organization that maintains the largest age range group of dances. We have local Mexican kids that love to participate every year as young as 4 years old, and we have our retired expats that keep attending year after year in their 80s!

This year, the largest non-profit in our community, Cruz Roja Chapala, is expanding its existing facility by building a new Emergency Wing that takes care of locals and expats alike. The larger space will be more efficient as the need for responsive medical care has increased significantly in our community over the past couple of years.

Cruz Roja Mexicana is a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, assisting without discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. All facilities share the values of:

  • Humanity. Prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found.
  • Impartiality. The only priority that can be set in dealing with those who require help must be based on need.
  • Neutrality. Prohibition from taking part in hostilities or engaging in controversies of a political, racial, religious, or ideological nature.
  • Independence. Maintain autonomy to act in accordance with the principles of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movements; subject to the laws of their respective countries.
  • Voluntary Service. We are a voluntary relief movement not prompted in any manner by desire or gain.
  • Unity. There can be only one Red Cross or Red Crescent Society in one country.

Cruz Roja Chapala is fully staffed 24/7 365 days a year and offers ambulance service, a fully staffed clinic, and the new 24/7 emergency wing in the Chapala Headquarters located on González Gallo, between the Chapala Malecón and Christiana Park. Locals as well as Expats understand the value of this service that directly affects our lives. It can mean the difference between life or death in many cases. Cruz Roja depends on the generosity of our community.

Elliott Joaquim started this event 13 years ago with just a few participants and each year, we have grown in numbers of “Zombies” but also in the amounts raised. Last year, we received and donated over $103,000 Mexican Pesos ($6038.18 USD).

Cruz Roja Mexicana has awarded us a grant this year which will match every peso for peso for all the money we can raise, so your donation automatically gets doubled!

Won't you please help us achieve our GoFundMe goal of $5,000 USD?
