If someone had told me six months ago what my family would endure in 2026, I would never have believed it.

In February 2026, we said goodbye to my mother-in-law, Gwendolyn “Grammie” Myers, after a very short, unexpected but courageous battle. She was intubated, surrounded by those who loved her, and ultimately went home to be with the Lord. The grief of losing the matriarch of our family was profound, and we were still trying to find our footing when tragedy struck again.

In March 2026, our 20-year-old son, Santana, was involved in a catastrophic rollover car accident. He suffered life-threatening injuries including a traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries, multiple surgeries, and weeks of hospitalization. He was intubated, airlifted, and given a fight for his life that no parent should ever have to witness. By God’s grace, Santana survived and continues his long road to recovery.

Just as we began navigating that journey, our family was dealt another devastating blow.

On June 10, 2026, while visiting Santana at the acute rehabilitation facility, my husband, Keno, suffered severe heart failure and respiratory distress. He was rushed to the hospital, intubated, and placed on life-support measures. His heart is functioning at only 20%, and doctors have had to utilize advanced cardiac and pulmonary support to keep him alive. We have now entered discussions with his medical team regarding long-term options, including the possibility of a heart transplant.

As I write this, Keno remains in critical condition.

Keno is a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, loyal friend, and a man who has always been there for others. He is the kind of person who would give his last dollar to help someone in need and never ask for anything in return.

The emotional toll of losing a mother, fighting for our son’s recovery, and now facing a battle for Keno’s life has been overwhelming. Alongside the emotional burden are mounting medical expenses, transportation costs, lodging, lost income, rehabilitation expenses, and the many unforeseen costs that accompany prolonged critical illness.
