Help Me Get Through My Babies’ NICU Journey ❤️
I never imagined I would be writing something like this. I recently welcomed spontaneous triplets, making them the first set of triplets in my family. While I am incredibly grateful for my three babies, this has also been one of the most emotional, overwhelming, and challenging experiences of my life.
This is my first time having babies in the NICU, and I honestly didn’t know what to expect. The emotions and anxiety have been very high, and I am taking everything one day at a time.
All three of my babies were born very early and have already had to overcome so much. One of my babies had air around the heart, one of my girls needed a breathing tube, and my little boy experienced a Grade 1 brain hemorrhage along with bradycardia and apnea. There have been a lot of scary moments and a lot of tears, but there have also been so many little victories.
All three babies have gone from needing significant breathing support to CPAP, then bubble CPAP, and they are now working toward a room-air trial. They have gone from weighing around 2 pounds each to almost 4 pounds, and every ounce gained and every milestone they reach means the world to me.
We still have a long road ahead. The babies are expected to remain in the NICU for quite some time, and we aren’t even looking at them coming home until around November. I know there are still many more milestones they need to accomplish before that day comes.
While my babies are in the NICU, I also have four children at home who need me. They are all involved in sports and extracurricular activities, so I’m trying my best to balance everything. I’m driving about 45 minutes each way to the NICU while also making sure my kids at home get to their activities, have dinner, get their baths, get to bed on time, and still feel like they have their mom.
I’m also trying to keep up with the house, cleaning, cooking, and everything else that comes with taking care of a family of seven.
At the same time, I’m recovering from my first C-section, which was a T-shaped incision. My recovery hasn’t been easy. I’ve already torn muscles on my left side, and I have days where the pain in my back, pelvis, and lower stomach becomes so bad that I get stiff, extremely sore, and have difficulty walking. I’m trying to remind myself that I need to rest and let my body heal, but it’s hard when there are so many things and so many people that depend on me.
Financially, things have become really difficult too. I went into labor just 100 hours short of qualifying for paid maternity leave. Because I missed that cutoff, I’m now on unpaid leave. I’ve already had to use all of my PTO just to have a paycheck coming in, and that still isn’t enough to cover everything.
Between our regular bills, groceries, taking care of my children at home, and the gas it takes to drive back and forth to the NICU, the expenses are adding up quickly. With three babies expected to spend several more weeks in the hospital, I know there are going to be many more expenses ahead.
Asking for help is not something that comes easily to me. I’m used to being the one taking care of everyone else. But right now, I could really use some help so I can focus on what matters most: being there for my babies, being there for my children at home, and giving myself the chance to heal.
Any donation, no matter how big or small, would mean so much to me and my family. It will help with gas to and from the NICU, household bills, groceries, and the unexpected expenses that come with having three babies in the NICU.
If you’re not able to donate, sharing this fundraiser means just as much to me. ❤️
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, support my family, pray for my babies, or simply send us some love. We are taking this one day and one milestone at a time, and I can’t wait for the day I can finally bring all three of my babies home.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ❤️
