Thousand Movie Project
Hello my dudes,
My name is Alex and this is the first annual crowdfunding campaign for Thousand Movie Project -- my effort to watch, in chronological order, every movie listed in Steven Jay Schneider's 1001 MOVIES YOU MUST SEE BEFORE YOU DIE. I'm writing a response essay to each movie, kind of a blend between a movie review and a diary entry, and posting them, twice a week, to www.thousandmovieproject.com.
I also host, under the Thousand Movie Project banner, free public screenings in South Miami, at a cafe called Tea & Poets.
Licensing the movies that I show for free costs $135 a piece, plus tax, and in order to watch all of these old movies (I've seen about 170 in the first year) I'm subscribed to various streaming services -- Netflix, Fandor, Filmstruck -- which cost a total of maybe $30 a month. But those platforms don't have every movie I need. So I'm also often renting moveis at $2-$4 a piece from Amazon's streaming service, or YouTube's, and then there's the fee for sustaining the website, which is about $50 a year.
Now and then I have to buy a foreign print of a DVD that isn't available in the United States. Example: THE CROWD (1928) appears on the List, but it was never released on DVD or VHS or Laserdisc. So I had to find a DVD printing service in the UK and order a bootleg from overseas. That cost quite a bit.
The Thousand Movie Project has cost me a little more than a thousand dollars in this first year (how fitting) and, given what I'm trying to impelement for the Project in 2018, I'd like to have a little more breathing room for hosting events, advertising, the like.
Anything you can donate toward the cause would be hugely appreciated!
