Thoughts and prayers for my mom.

I would like to share a heartbreaking double tragedy that has unexpectedly impacted my family immensely. My beloved baba (grandmother), Korneliya Syvets, passed away at the age of 73 from respiratory issues on Feb 20,2021 in Chernovtsy, Ukraine. Baba was as sweet a person as anyone could hope to meet with an unforgettable laugh and outlook on life. She raised me in Ukraine while my mom was getting her career in line. She was a loving mother to her daughter (my mom), Natasha French, and a doting grandmother to Katya Davydova (me) and Eric French (my 18-year-old half-sibling).
On February 24, my mom flew to Ukraine to handle the funeral arrangements, arriving shortly after into Chernovtsy via Kiev three days after receiving the news of my grandmother's passing. The trip was brutal and the funeral was even harder for my mother (who is an only child) to cope with and process.
During that time, Chernovtsy was identified as a red zone for Covid cases. With that said, my mother took an earlier train back to the capital, Kiev, to spend a few days in quarantine with our distant family relatives. The day prior to her flight back to the states, she was diagnosed with double pneumonia, and shortly after her condition deteriorated with her immune system being very weak. While being on bed rest, my mom realized that Kiev was having a huge outbreak of COVID as well and tried to leave early to protect herself but tested positive for COVID on 3-8-21 and finally found a hospital a few days later in Kiev that could take her in with limited space and staff. Mom not only has COVID but had double pneumonia and has been in intensive care since 3-10-21. Now her pneumonia is reduced to just one lung thankfully but blood work today indicates COVID and pneumonia are still attacking her health. She was under an oxygen mask for a week and was not able to move or speak nor use the bathroom. She was bleeding from her nose for a few days.
Yesterday (3/24/21) marked 1 month since my mom has been gone and absent from family and work while fighting this dreadful infection. On top of that, she is struggling with depression from her mother passing away and severe anxiety about the future of her health and life as a single mom upon her return to America. She has been witnessing people in her hospital room die in front of her eyes and their bodies being taken in plastic bags to be dumped just 15 kilometers from the hospital. The cost of medicine is adding up to an astronomical level, which is not covered by the hospital. My mom now faces significant medical expenses and could potentially not be able to return to her job when she makes it back to the US.
Mom will be isolated from her family and friends for at least another 3-4 weeks as she struggles to recover. Any help and all prayers along with good wishes are appreciated as she deals with this sickness and the depressing loneliness that is COVID. Thank you very much for your support.
