Hi, I am Jennifer, Sole Proprietor of Thoughtbeam Books & Marketplace-a company created for bibliophiles by a bibliophile. Thoughtbeam Books & Marketplace is a bootstrap company. Why Thoughtbeam?
Thoughtbeam is a word that my husband, Justin, uses to describe the process of acquiring knowledge through engaged reading. Thus, a thoughtbeam is an output of an engaged reading process, one in which ideas flow.
Thoughtbeam Books and Marketplace is a family owned and operated startup that developed from my passion for books, the love of creative & artistically designed items, and necessity. I would love to say that my passions were the sole driver, but I cannot deny the overwhelming truth of my husband’s debilitating disease, Cluster Headaches . My husband, Justin, suffers daily from this debilitating condition and he has exhausted all known medical treatments. Having a home business allows me to provide care for my husband, when necessary.
More than Just Books!
Thoughtbeam a store for those with a creative flair. With a creative arts background, my passion for unique and quirky things matches my passion for books. Thus, Thoughtbeam's business model had to include unique calendars, diaries, electronic gadgets, gift sets, journals, notepads, stationary sets, and much more. This is why we call it Thoughtbeam Books & Marketplace
The most important thing about a home-based online business is that I can focus on my mission to maximize customer satisfaction. Exceptional customer service is integral to Thoughtbeam's business model and differentiation from other online booksellers. This mission starts with FREE shipping and handling, with 2-5 day delivery estimates; but, that’s not enough. To prove our belief in our products we added a 30-Day Money-Back, 100% satisfaction policy! We are also Paypal and Trust Guard Business Verified!
Our company policy does not end with customer satisfaction; we believe in promoting community sustainability. Thoughtbeam believes in the promotion of community literacy! My husband and I are staunch believers in the importance of strong reading comprehension and the ability to discern information. That is why we are actively involved in local community literacy programs, and donate our time and money to those efforts. We are currently donating 2% of all proceeds earned through our store, and raised through this campaign, toward the establishment of a community literacy fund.
Thoughtbeam Books & Marketplace is a trade-marked company (i.e. sole-proprietorship) licensed through the State of Maryland. To mitigate risk, I am in the process of obtaining a general business and e-commerce insurance policy.
At this time our store is hosted solely on Ebay. We began with Ebay because customer research has indicated a high level of trust with purchases through Ebay. Hosting through Ebay also helps us increase our security and decrease liability. Low overhead and modest traffic, without the need for expensive websites and SEO tools allowed us to keep our startup costs low. This is where we started, but now it’s time to grow!
We are hoping that your donations will help us expand our online presence to include additional storefronts through Shopify and Amazon.com. To do this, we will need a central inventory hub, shipping service, and accounting software, professional website design, and SEO optimization. We need working capital and income for the purchase of inventory and market research. Additionally, we will be converting to an LLC business structure.

· For donations of $5, we offer a 15% reduction storewide (up to $35).
· For donations of $10, we offer a 25% reduction storewide (up to $50, although we can work something out for larger orders).
· For donations of $25, we offer a 35% reduction storewide (up to $75, although we can work something out for larger orders).
· For donations of $50 we will adjust your final order by 45% (up to $150, although we can work something out for larger orders).
