Thor's Second Chance: Support His Recovery

Hi dachshund family and friends! As you remember, our sweet boy Thor had IVDD surgery in January 2025. About 3 weeks ago, he completed his 8 weeks of strict bed rest. He’s been doing great and made a full recovery. Unfortunately, on Thursday evening Thor began showing signs of a hurt back. We took him to the vet yesterday because he was in pain and having difficulty walking. By this morning, he had lost sensation in his right hind leg. We drove him to Memphis, TN today for emergency back surgery because his neurologist in Little Rock is retired and only does surgery on Mondays. Waiting till Monday for surgery in Little Rock was not an option due to him already losing function in his hind legs.

The Memphis Emergency vet originally stated his surgery would cost between $6700-$8000. However, once his CT scan was completed, the surgeon called to state she’d be removing TWO ruptured discs and the price would likely be higher than first estimated. We paid a deposit of $6700 today. Due to this surgery being so soon after his original back surgery, we are asking for donations to help cover his current surgery expenses.

After surgery, he’ll be hospitalized 2-3 days in Memphis and will then come to Little Rock to be hospitalized at his regular vet for the remainder of the week.
