Four and a half years ago I was diagnosed with Anti GBM, which caused my body to create antibodies that attacked my kidneys and then sent me into end stage renal disease. I went through a series of treatments to get rid of the auto immune disease that was attacking my kidneys. These treatments ended up causing my kidneys to ultimately fail and since then Ive been doing dialysis for the past four and a half years.
Earlier this past week I was blessed to receive an unexpected call that would change my life. The call was offering me the kidney that Ive waited so long for. I immediately went in that night for surgery. The surgery was a success, and I now have a functioning kidney.
Ive always tried to remain hopeful that I would one day be the recipient of a kidney, and would be able to have a "normal" life again.
This journey has definitely tested both me and my loved ones in more ways than one. I have been blessed with a faithful support system in the form of family, and friends. This strength and support helped me to keep forging ahead on this long and trying journey. Although I do now have a kidney, a new part of this journey begins. Due to the surgery I will be out of work for the next 4 to 5 months and I will be at risk of losing my insurance. And without insurance, I won't be able to afford my Anti-rejection medications, which are extremely necessary.
Any contribution will help me get through this time of being out of work and to help tackle any accumulated medical debt caused by this very expensive surgery. I appreciate anyone taking the time to read about my trials, and taking the time to help me in my continued recovery.
