My name is Thomas, and like many men, I never expected to hear the words “you have prostate cancer.”
Now I’m facing this diagnosis with determination, hope, and a commitment to choose the treatment that gives me the best chance at a healthy, active life.
After extensive consultations and research, doctors have advised that NanoKnife (Irreversible Electroporation) is an excellent option for my specific cancer. This minimally invasive procedure targets cancer cells while preserving the surrounding tissue, meaning fewer side effects, better quality of life, and faster recovery compared to major surgery or radiation.
Unfortunately, NanoKnife is not funded by the Government of Manitoba.
To receive this treatment, I must travel from Winnipeg to Toronto and pay $25,000, plus travel and accommodation expenses.
This is not about choosing something extra — it’s about choosing a treatment that fights the cancer effectively while allowing me to remain whole, functional, and healthy long-term. I want to address this cancer proactively now, rather than face lifelong complications later.
While publicly funded treatments like prostate removal or radiation are available, they often carry permanent side effects such as incontinence or sexual dysfunction. NanoKnife offers comparable cancer control for carefully selected patients with far fewer risks — yet access depends entirely on personal finances.
I will be undergoing this procedure on March 19th, and any support will help relieve the financial burden of accessing this care.
Every donation, share, or message of encouragement truly makes a difference. Your support not only helps me access this treatment, but also raises awareness so that one day this option may be available to all Manitobans who need it.
I’m deeply grateful to my grandchildren for helping me share my story through their video, and to everyone who takes a moment to read, watch, donate, or share.
Thank you for standing with me.
Thomas
