Thomas Reynolds Porter VII
October 18, 1960-August 8, 2020
On Saturday, August 8, 2020, while marking utility lines at work, our dad was struck and killed by a vehicle.
Our dad loved flying - it was all he would ever talk about, and he spent 40 years pursuing his Private Pilot's Certificate. He was mere hours away from his checkride at the time of his death, and will unfortunately never have the opportunity to complete that goal.
We, Tommy (son) and Elizabeth (daughter), would like to memorialize our father in the best way we know how - with a brick at the Brown Arch at Wittman Airport (OSH) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. For the past couple of years, we traveled to OSH for EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. This event gathers pilots and aviation enthusiasts from all backgrounds, and is the largest airshow in the world every year. The "Brown Arch" is the most notable and significant landmark on the field.
In lieu of flowers and other donations for the funeral, we ask that donations be made to this GoFundMe so we can gather the funds needed to purchase a memorial brick for our dad. Although the goal is high for this fund, we placed it at $5000 because it is the highest option to purchase. At a later date, we will close this campaign, regardless of the amount raised, and purchase the brick most near this goal. If we fall short of the next tier and see it as a reasonable goal, we will donate enough money to purchase that item.
Thank you all for your support and willingness to donate. This is just a small token to remember our dad who was important to so many people, almost especially to those whom we don't know.
