Thomas Geruso's Recovery

My name is Gian Geruso, the oldest son of Thomas Geruso —one of the victims of the February 16, 2026 shooting at Denis Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Nothing could prepare us for what a tragedy this has brought upon not only us , but for the Dorgan family and the Rhode Island community. Nothing prepares you for a phone call like that. Nothing prepares you to see your dad fighting for his life.

As of writing this, my brother, Cameron Geruso, our Aunt and Thomas's Sister, Donna Geruso and all of the Gerusos are hoping and praying for a full recovery, as he is in still critical but stable condition. Dad, who was close with Rhonda and her family, will have to deal with the aftermath of this terrible event. The physical damage is devastating. The emotional toll is something I can’t even begin to describe. You always think, “This could never happen to us.” But it did.

Anyone who knows my dad knows his heart. He's a strong fighter, not only for himself but the people around him. He has never once given up on anything that he's loved so dearly. Anyone who has met my dad knows how funny (albeit some of his jokes don't land) compassionate, and fiercely loyal he is. He has always fought for the people he loves. Now he’s fighting for his own life. Right now my dad is still here—and for that, I am beyond grateful.

My aunt, my brother and I have decided to create this go fund me in the hopes to raise money for my dad for what's to come next—surgeries, medical bills insurance won’t cover, physical therapy, mental health support and the basic day-to-day needs during what will be a long and uncertain recovery.

The truth is, life will never go back to what it was before February 16th. But we are determined to help my dad build a life forward—one filled with strength, dignity, and hope.

To the Dorgan family, my heart aches immensely. I can't begin to fathom how your lives have changed. The Geruso's stand by you and will be there for you with whatever you need.

As a North Providence graduate, this hits too close to home, and nothing could prepare me for this so I say to the NP community as well, we stand with you.

Please keep my dad in your prayers as well as the Dorgans and their grandparents, who are fighting for their lives.

To anyone else effected by this, if you are feeling unwell by this or are struggling, please seek family, friends or any other help you can find, because in times like this the strongest thing we can create is hope, and we all need to be there for each other.
