I am starting this Go Fund Me account for the Thomas Family of Sand Springs, OK. Bryan and Leah Thomas have four beautiful children. Leah has been off work with no income since October 17, 2016, on Family Medical Leave Act as she has been taking care of her mother, who has been fighting cancer for a few years. Her mother was in the hospital this year from June 25 - November 1, with several cancer-related issues, and she was on a ventilator most of that time. In October, the family was told there was nothing else the doctors could do, so the options were to send her mother to a nursing home with ventilator specialities or for the family to take care of her themselves. The nursing home wasn't an option due to her condition, so Leah took FMLA leave to care for her Mom 24/7. Her Mom is defying all odds and what the doctors thought she could do; however, she still requires 24/ care. Leah's FMLA leave ends on January 10, and she's concerned she will lose her job because there is no one else to care for her mother. Her mother has Medicare to pay most of the hospital and doctor's bills, but no prescription coverage, so all of that enormous amount is out of pocket expense for the family. A sweet "angel" has assisted with the family's mortgage payment for the past few months, but the family is getting ready to lose their health insurance because they can't pay the premiums.
To top all of this, Bryan, Leah's husband was just laid off work without even a two-week notice here the week of Christmas. He was working for a small home builder as a Construction supervisor, and was told his job is finished. He had recently been laid off from his prior job due to budget cuts, so it has been a long struggle.
There's concern they could lose their home. Also, there are four wonderful children, who haven't asked for much for Christmas, but without our help, there won't be a Christmas for them.
The family knows God is in control and trusts Him to meet their needs. We need to be God's hands and feet and help them get through this time of emergency. In addition to your prayers, can you help them through this time?
Finally, Leah lost her Dad to cancer five years ago, and she cared for him throughout his illness. Her Dad is my Dad's cousin, and I know they would not ask for help unless it was an extreme situation.
Thank you for anything you can do to help out.
