Hello friends, in the early morning hours on Monday, February 20th Thom was working grooming at Sierra. He hit a tree stump just below the snow level and was thrown into the windshield head first. He was unable to move his arms and legs after the impact and was Care Flighted to Renown immediately.
The hit to his head severely compressed his spine and caused quadriplegia. The Neurosurgeon performed surgery right away to remove the pressure from his spine. He was in surgery for 5 hours, where they removed bone from his C2 through T2 vertebrae, and fused them back together with hardware. As you could imagine, this is a very serious surgery and left him in excruciating pain.
After a week in the ICU, Thom was transferred to Renown Rehab where he is expected to stay for 3+ weeks. He will be in rehab working on physical & occupational therapy every day to try to regain the use of his arms and legs. The doctors seem confident that he will get most of his functioning back, but it will definitely take a lot of time and work. They are hesitant on predicting how long his recovery will be because everyone heals differently. But he has a long hard road ahead of him, and will likely be out of work for 6 or more months.
Adrienne will be traveling back and forth between South Lake and Reno throughout his time in rehab. We are asking for your support to cover loss of work, travel costs and lodging for Adrienne while she supports Thom through these hard coming weeks. As well as bills & living expenses over the coming months while Thom is unable to work. Thom and Adrienne are so grateful for the loving community of friends and family that have reached out and offered support. Please keep them both in your thoughts & prayers and wish Thom a speedy recovery. So much Love to you all ♥️ Thank you !
