This Moose was born to run! Help Fix our Puppers!
Meet Moose! Our amazing 8 month old Cane Corso Pup!
He may not look like it, but he needs our help.
To start, my name is Mat and my wife is Jenn... like many, the past couple years have been more challenging than most. Finding ourselves in a position where we are reaching out for help and support is something we never anticipated, but life throws you curveballs, you swallow your pride, and begin your story....
When it comes to our furry family, the past year has been...well, exceptionally difficult.
Late last fall, our Beautiful 6 year old Cane (Ollie), was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. We did everything we could for her, however in her advanced stage it was only about making her comfortable...and on December 27th we made the fair choice, and we said goodbye to her...
For those who get it...get it! We are a dog home, and although mourning and missing Ollie, an opportunity came up to bring our boy Moose into the family!
Moose came in full of life, and was quickly embraced by the family, friends, and funny enough, the entire neighbourhood!
At around the 5 month mark, we noticed he wasn't quite able to keep up with the pups at the park; he seemed exhausted after short play; and was beginning to show some issues walking
We immediately called our vet, x-rays were completed, we were referred to an Orthopedic Surgeon, and after a few weeks, he was diagnosed with rear Bi-Lateral Hip Dysplasia. The Doctor, gave us the run down, provided some surgical and non-surgical options to support our pooch. We ultimately opted the non-surgical route, and next week Moose will begin Physio-therapy and Hydro therapy sessions to build up the strength in his back legs...
Now this is where the story took a turn, a couple weeks ago, we called our doctor back and reported a noticeable limp now in his front legs. She rushed us in, and performed a CT scan on his front limbs and the news came back...
Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), in both of his front shoulders...and...is front elbows!
Taken straight from a Vet site; OCD refers to an abnormal development of the cartilage on the end of a bone in the joint. Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD or OD) is an inflammatory condition that occurs when the diseased cartilage separates from the underlying bone.
Thanks to amazing team at the Rexdale Animal Hospital, and now under the care of Dr Rhea Plesman at the CTVRC in Toronto, we now know what we have to do for Moose!
The bad news; he is already in pain now as a result and we can see it daily, if we don't deal with this, it will quickly worsen, and reach a point where he may be unable to walk. With the severity as it sits now, a surgical procedure is required.
The Good news, at his young age, the procedure comes with an extremely high success rate, and an outcome that should lead to him living a long and healthy life, which is what we want more than anything for this amazing Moose, and which is why we need a little help.
We Have set the fundraising goal at $8,000, as that is what we have been quoted for the surgery.
We will do whatever we can to help Moose get the life he deserves, and we welcome any support that may help us on the hard journey ahead!
So please, give what you can or are able to, and if you are unable, we welcome just a like/Share or forward of our campaign!
In Advance...that you so much for all of your collective support, any dollar received will mean to the world to us and will 100% be going to Moose. In the rare chance we exceed our goal, anything excess will be paid forward to another pup in need!
Love Mat, Jenn and the one and only Moose!!!
