Hi Friends,
You all know Floyd: This Little Boy!! My Dude. Spicy Meatball. Pretty Boy Floyd. The yin to my yang. My absolute everything. And many of you know that my dude went blind in his left eye four years ago due to a lens luxation caused by Equine Recurrent Uveitis (ERU).
He now has this beautiful-but-useless zombie eye, which I adore:
Cool, right?!
As many of you are also aware, Floyd and I experienced a very traumatic event together in July, which left me with some fractured ribs, a lot of swelling and bruising on many parts of my body, some pretty hefty mental turbulence, and the inability to work for at least six weeks.* Thankfully, Floyd was uninjured during the accident, but the day before it happened he was seen by the vet for an ulcer in his right/good eye.
The initial treatment did not address the problem fully, so he had further testing and more treatment. The ulcer finally healed, but in addition to being seen by his regular vet four times over the past several weeks, he also visited Cornell for a thorough ophthalmic exam on both eyes in mid-August. This exam was needed so we have all of the information we can going forward to ensure that his vision remains as stable as possible and that we keep the blind left eye as comfortable as possible until it may need to be removed. Happily, this visit went well: the left eye is sound with no need for enucleation at this time, and the known issues present in the right eye have remained more or less as they were four years ago. However, we’re proceeding with a new daily treatment for his right eye to manage what appears to be IMMK (an explanation of which would take up far too much space here!). So to make a very long story shortish, my boy has a continuing need for eye care and has racked up the vet bills lately. Of course, this has happened while I am out of work and have no income. (Typical horse behavior!)
If you have read this far, first: thank you! I am NOT a person who enjoys being sidelined or easily asks for help, but I know there are a lot of people in my life who care about Floyd and his well-being. I created and first circulated this fundraiser on Floyd’s gotcha day (my birthday, August 17), when we turned four years old! The immediate response was overwhelming, and I feel so fortunate to have such generosity in my life and his. We are almost to our goal! Please consider donating to his vision fund, which will help us continue our journey together. Our target amount is based on costs incurred for the five vet visits he’s had since July 10, 2025. Any amount helps, and I guarantee that every cent will go directly to Floyd’s costs only. Thank you, friends!
*And if you have continued to this point and don’t know the details of our accident, please dig through my Facebook to find the post from 7/12/25. It’s a tough thing to relive with subsequent tellings. I will also note here that I have been extremely fortunate to have my own medical bills covered by insurance. Additionally, I am so very lucky to have a family who has been able to help me financially, but I cannot ask any more of them. Again, any donations made to this GoFundMe will be for Floyd alone. If we make more than I owe for his current bills, I will put it into an account specifically for him and his future eye-related needs, which will be lifelong.
