This Journey Has Just Begun.

Breathing is essential to life itself. Imagine having a hard time doing anything that at one point in your life came so effortlessly. Walking up and down stairs, a simple trip to the grocery store, performing the most basic tasks, is a struggle because you can’t breathe.

This is the current reality for our mother Kim.

After finding out that she needed a lung transplant, she became focused on getting new lung/s and her potential for a new lease on life… Thinking about taking a deep breath of fresh air and moving on with her life, so that she can continue to have an active role in our family, as well as be present in her 19-month-old granddaughter Mariah Grace’s life.

We know that the journey ahead will be a long one filled with many unknowns. This is going to be a long journey of physical as well as mental healing. The burdens of the cost of everyday living will impact our family greatly because of the loss of income while facing this hardship.

Continuing over the coming days, weeks, and months ahead we will need to be at countless doctor appointments, and hospital stays. As you can imagine, the medical costs can be astronomical, and there will be other expenses along the way from hospital transportation, parking garage costs, and other prescription and treatment supply costs.

This is our 1st public post about what our family has been going through. As most people don’t know, in December of 2022 Kim was critically ill with sever COPD. After many months of Pulmonary appointments and being put on oxygen 24/7, she was told her condition would continue to decline, and the road to recovery consisted of a lung transplant. On March 19th, 2024, Kim was blessed by receiving a call from Northwestern Memorial Hospital alerting her that two lungs became available, and she would be a good recipient. After arriving to the hospital, it was decided that only the right lung was viable and instead of having a bilateral lung transplant, she would undergo a single lung transplant. She was brought down to the operating room at 3:15AM on March 20th, 2024, to have the procedure. By the grace of God her transplant went well, and she will be recovering in the ICU until further notice. She will continue to be intubated and sedated for another few days to get the new lung rested and acclimated to her body.

After such an intense operation, our mom Kim will be disabled for at least 6 months but possibly forever. We are not sure. For our family there are a lot of unknowns. It’s a huge operation to recover from, and it changes so much about our lives, but it is LIFE, and we are so grateful. If anyone knows us, you know we will always pay it forward. It takes a lot for us to ask for help. Our mom Kim ALWAYS gives back, and this time will be no different. We are trying to raise some money to help us stay afloat while we navigate what direction our lives take from here. We would be so grateful to anyone that would help us out and/or share our story. Kim’s life is nothing short of a miracle❤️

We have started this Go Fund Me account to try and ease some of the financial burden we as a family are taking on. We can continue to focus on making it through this journey together, so that our mother Kim can get a chance to take a breath of fresh air and get back to focusing on what’s most important to her – her family and a quality life once again.

From the bottom of our hearts, we humbly ask that you share this link with friends and family and if it is possible to donate… donate (any amount will help). We thank you for your support and may God bless each one of you!
