About This Project

This is Where the Marigolds Grow is a film that revolves around the poignant journey of healing and self-discovery as the main character, Lucille, finds solace in the company of resilient women. Through imagery rich with symbolism, this film will uniquely intertwine the motif of laundry throughout its narrative, symbolizing both the cyclical nature of life and the transformative power of cleansing and renewal.

A Note from the Director

As an artist, I draw inspiration from the depth and complexity of the human experience, particularly my evolving understanding of my role in the creative industry as a woman. Through this project, I am driven to connect deeply with audiences and ignite important conversations.

This is Where the Marigolds Grow centers on the metaphor of laundry, a task that is traditionally kept, folded, and organized by women as a literary device. With three short acts mirroring the colors, darks, and whites traditionally associated with separating laundry, we'll explore themes of feminity, responsibility, and autonomy.

Throughout this film, we will employ evocative imagery - such as dirtying clothes with torn marigolds, spilled wine, or crushed fruit - to delve into the narrative’s deeper, more nuanced themes. This deliberate approach is driven by my fervent belief that steering clear of explicit or triggering content is not only mindful of the audience, cast, and crew but also allows for a more impactful and emotionally resonant exploration of women's experiences.

Alongside six exceptionally talented producers, whom I’m lucky to know both as collaborators and dear friends, we aspire to breathe life into this narrative and connect with those who share similar life experiences.
