This is the Way We Grow
Donation protected
This year, we have hopes of starting a garden program for our school community. The garden project, This is the Way we Grow, will be a brand new program for our urban school community. We envision initially starting this project with the 18 special education classrooms(for a total of around 180 students and 60+ staff members) and eventually expanding participation to the whole school community. We will use the opportunity having an urban garden provides to interlace relevant aspects of learning, creating, and growing into our classroom, school, and community culture. Supporting the growth and maintenance of the garden will enrich our current curriculum; providing alternative opportunities to teach our students a myriad of life skills while providing immeasurable experiences. We have also applied for a grant through Whole Kids in hope they will support our efforts as well. However, that will only cover some of the expenses needed to start a successful garden program. While we wait for the news of that grant, we would love to get our garden area cleaned and ready for the garden within the next year. Our fencing needs to be fixed and/or replaced, the compost structure needs to be fixed, smaller flower boxes need to be made, and the area needs to be thoroughly cleaned. Funds raised will go towards buying tools, supplies, and resources for our garden program. thank you for any and all support.
