I have never done this before so please bare with me. I feel it in my heart that I have to in order to help a dear friend out. Her name is Pamela. I met her during my internship in college the fall of 2009. I took the internship at a local hospital in Charlotte, NC. As I was transferred around the different areas in the hospital for my work experience, I met Pam. We clicked right from the start and have been wonderful friends ever since! Right when someone thinks that the year 2020 couldn't get any worse, I was hit with this news that broke my heart and made me pacing back and forth while I was on the phone with her daughter Lanae, whom was the first one who contacted me around 7:45am the one morning. So to get to the point of this GoFundMe: It was in the middle of September, Pam had a bad cough so she went to the doctor for the cough and told them she knew she had signs of pneumonia. They did blood work and x-rays twice and said Pam was fine. They, Pam and her man Brett, went to her Dr to get checked out. The docs found nothing wrong with her. The meds they put her on started to show the side affects. A week goes by and its not getting any better so they go to Urgent Care on September 23rd, 2020 and see the Dr there. They ran more tests and once again said she was fine. They told her to just take dayquil or nyquil for her cough but yet she was feeling worse than ever since the first time she went to her primary Doc. Two days went by so they went to the closest ER on September 25th, 2020 on a Friday and they did ex rays and ran blood work. They finally saw something wasn't right so they rushed her to University hospital. Pam was up and talking and then her body started shutting down. They put her on a ventilator to help her breathing. She was placed in a coma because she was only breathing about 45 percent on her own while she was under. The Docs made the probability of her not even making it. The docs said to contact family because they may not see her alive again. They did a biopsy of her lungs and found a strand of uncurable pneumonia which she had for a while but neither of the first two places caught it. They diagnosed her with LEGIONNAIRES DISEASE! Which they say and is known to be a very rare disease. Shortly after her kidneys started shutting down. They did 3, four hour dialysis treatments on her before the kidneys started working on there own again. However, they were still showing levels that weren't good but yet good enough that they took her off the ventilator to see how she would do on her own while she's still in the coma. Pam had 10 different I.V. bags running into one line in her neck to try and fight the pneumonia even though it was a strand that is unbeatable. On the other side of her neck they had the other line in for her dialysis treatments. She laid in a coma for 14 days!!! They tried to get her into a Rehabilitation hospital but insurance would not cover it. So now they are trying to get a home health care nurse and rehabilitation nurse to visit her at home for her rehab so shes on oxygen at the house. She is currently using a walker. When she tries to get around she can NOT be left alone at any time! Her mind with some of the things she will say you can tell shes not all there yet.. The doctors say hopefully it should get better with time but they also say it could be 3 months or up to a whole year before shes back to some what of a normal life. Docs also say that her body could start giving out again, so once she gets working with therapy its going to be touch and go from this point on.. I am making this page to help her with medical costs, bills and living expenses. Anything will help right now. I have giving and done all that I can myself being her friend. If you have a heart and feel any type of way with Pamela's story Please donate anything you can. I cant thank you enough and it is greatly appreciated!
