We are 4 people living in a mobile home in a community park, and the environment itself is no longer healthy or safe. The water issues are constant. They either bleach it or heavily chlorinate it. The owner didn’t even get the septic tanks pumped since he’s owned the park until the state forced him to, and there are potholes in the road that have gone neglected for the past couple of years now. It’s no longer safe to use the wheelchair on the road without weaving to avoid the potholes. Even regular cars are forced to avoid them; courier services used to get damaged tires and axles because of them.
Our family is in need of a proper handicap-accessible home. We are an all-disabled family, with physical and psychological disabilities. Our current home is not accessible enough for my handicapped sibling’s wheelchair to navigate. She has Caudal Regression Syndrome/Sacral Agenesis. We’ve had to remove the bedroom door because the wheelchair would not fit inside otherwise, and use a curtain in the doorway for privacy. I utilize a bed tent in the living room with my dog that I’ve converted into a bedroom-like space, so there’s no privacy as far as a real bedroom goes. I am disabled and out of work, my handicapped sibling has never been able to work by medical order. My mother is disabled and out of work, and my great aunt is retired and unfortunately has gone into the first stage of dementia with some schizophrenia, and recently had eye surgery that actually made her vision problem even worse. We had two vehicles, my great aunt still having hers, but I had to get rid of mine recently because there was an issue needing to be fixed that I couldn’t afford to get done, and it stalled out three times on the way to the place I was selling it to, so there was no saving it. So now we are down to 1 vehicle, and we need 2-3 for each person’s personal transportation needs, my vehicle being the primary for emergency transportation situations.
The video attached shows exactly how difficult it is just to navigate the wheelchair through the hallway, generally, and how impossible it is to fit it into a bedroom without nearly taking off the door. The wheelchair already broke 2 doorway trims when we first tried to get into the bedrooms. We need a place where we won’t have to sacrifice doors just for a wheelchair to be able to navigate safely, or risk personal injury to the one using it. We also need a place that has a decently sized fenced-in yard so the dogs can freely run around instead of always having to be on at leash just to go potty.
