Hi, I'm Dave Salamanca, a Colombian living in Argentina, known online as EsteEsDave. I've been working in Disney-style illustration for 10 years, creating custom works and pop culture fan art.

A week ago, my iPad, my work tool, stopped working overnight, just two years after I bought it. I took it to Apple looking for a solution or at least something that could save my work, and the response was: "iPads can't be fixed, and the only option was to buy another one." Obviously, the warranty didn't cover a replacement either.

I tried to continue working by borrowing an iPad and buying an Apple Pencil, but that borrowed iPad also had problems: the Pencil connected, but wouldn't let me draw. They repaired it, reformatted it, and it still didn't work. In the meantime, I took my iPad to another company to have it checked, but the response was the same: they couldn't do anything.

I was left without the tool I need to work and continue drawing. I don't have the resources to buy another one right now, as I recently bought that iPad, and these past few days have been very tough. This iPad has been a fundamental part of my life and my artistic career during this time.

After receiving messages of support from my family, friends, and followers, I made this final decision, which I honestly didn't want to make... out of shame, out of modesty, but the truth is I have no choice now. I just need to be able to create again and resume my work, putting this week on hold.

Hace una semana, mi iPad que es mi herramienta de trabajo, dejó de funcionar de la noche a la mañana, y con apenas 2 años de comprarlo. Lo llevé a Apple buscando un arreglo o al menos salvar mi trabajo, y la respuesta fue que “los iPad no tienen arreglo y que la única opción era comprar otro” La garantía obviamente tampoco cubría el reemplazo.

Intenté seguir trabajando pidiendo prestado un iPad y comprando un Apple Pencil para usarlo, pero aquel iPad prestado también tenía fallas: conectaba el Pencil, pero no permitía dibujar. Se hizo mantenimiento, se formateo y aun así no me funcionó. Mientras tanto, lleve a otra empresa mi iPad para que lo revisara, pero la respuesta fue la misma: no había nada que hacer.

Me quedé sin la herramienta que necesito para trabajar y para seguir dibujando. No cuento con los recursos para comprar otro ahora ya que hace poco había comprado ese iPad, y estos últimos días han sido muy duros para mí. Este iPad ha sido parte fundamental de mi vida y mi carrera artística durante este tiempo.

Después de recibir mensajes de apoyo de mi familia, amigos y personas que me siguen, llegue a esta última instancia, que la verdad no quería hacer…por vergüenza, por pena pero la verdad no tengo ahora de otra. Solo necesito poder volver a crear y retomar mi trabajo, dejando esta semana que me a dejado en pausa.
