A queer community space in the deep south.
This new project, Third Space Collective would be so much more than another bookstore.
We want a space to create a queer community hub. I have been putting together a monthly Dyke Nights since October and if that has told me anything, its that Savannah needs more queer centered spaces. for us, by us.
A ‘Third Space’ is a sociolinguistic term coined to describe the concept of community gathering spaces, outside of work and home.
We plan to hold open mic nights, markets, mini concerts with indie artists, book festivals and events, movie night projections in the courtyard, and many other events.
My vision for this incredible place is
- A community hub, with community care closets with all the mutual aid resources we offer now and much much more.
- A full fledged (non miniature) radical, queer bookstore without limits. Queer, radical, anarchist books and zines all over.
- A queer event venue. A place to host amazing events, ideas, spaces, markets for queer people BY queer people.
- Co-working spaces for queer artists and makers
- We hope to also create a gender-affirming care closet where we help people access binders, packers, makeup and more + alongside regular fundraisers for gender-affirming care.
- A place to be. A true third space.
The downstairs, and outdoor event space is fully ADA accessible. The upstairs would be converted in the co-working space and utilized by various artists and queer start ups to uplift the community and give people the opportunity to promote their products.
