A Third Generation's Battle Against Breast Cancer
My name is Marcella and I am asking for your help during this holiday season and on Giving Tuesday to help our family. Lea Ukuaka is facing a daunting challenge of battling third-generation breast cancer. This debilitating disease has come a long way, but still has far to go. As many of you know, this has been something we have always discussed with her niece Kali. Unfortunately, this disease has come now 3 times for our family and has taken one.
Many of you may not know, but Lea is Kali and Wesley's aunt, Chris's sister, and Melody and Ward's daughter. Her life has never been easy. She was the smallest baby born at the time in Antelope Valley, CA, weighing just 1 lb 8 oz. She has survived the horrific loss of her brother, a tragic loss of her father, and breast cancer ultimately taking her mother. Melody, the kids' grandma, is one of the strongest people I know. When I first met Melody almost 22 years ago, Lea was still in high school, maybe even middle school. Melody had already fought breast cancer, a survivor and in remission. When the cancer returned, I watched Melody fight for almost 13 years before it took her in 2017.
Lea was diagnosed with breast cancer last month. She now has to make many decisions that she should not have to make. I know cancer comes for all families, and if we can just help ease some of the financial burden so she can strictly focus on healing. She will need to be out of work for at least 6 weeks for the first procedure. She should have the opportunity to focus on healing and recovery. The road ahead is long and arduous, filled with medical treatments, emotional turmoil, and financial strain. To help Lea focus on healing and recovery, we're launching this fundraiser to alleviate the burden of work and living expenses.
Your generous donation will help cover:
* Medical bills and insurance co-payments
* Medication costs
* Lost wages due to treatment
* Daily living expenses (groceries, utilities, etc.)
By contributing to this cause, you're not just donating money; you're investing in hope, resilience, and the chance for a brighter future. Together, we can make a difference and support Lea in her fight against breast cancer. If you only have $1, that is ok, because if everyone I know sends in at least $1 and you all share, it will make a difference for Lea. So please share. Please donate and with Giving Tuesday tomorrow, please think about helping my family.
