Third Annual Scholastic Book Fair Fundraiser (Armstrong)

Hello Friends!

Our children attends George Armstrong School of International Studies (https://www.georgearmstrongelementary.org/m/#show-nav), a Chicago Public School in the West Ridge neighborhood of Chicago. The school is ethnically/racially diverse, and most importantly economically diverse, with almost 78% of the student body eligible for free or reduced lunch.

It's also time for the Scholastic Book Fair! Armstrong will have their Book Fair from April 1st-7th. As you may recall, the Book Fair is a fundraiser that schools use to raise funds, frequently to stock school libraries. Students purchase books and a portion of the proceeds go to the school either as book credit or cash.

As someone who did not have a lot of money growing up, I (Long) am very aware of how terrible it is when students cannot participate in these types of events for lack of money. So we are raising money so that as many students in the lower grades at Armstrong (~130 students/grade) as possible can pick a book off the list and get a book at the book fair.

How this will work: we will pass on 100% of the funds raised to the school (less GoFundMe fees), and the teachers will help the students select any book of their choosing at the $10 or lower price point.

If for some reason we have excess funds, we will either buy books for another grade (amazing!) or purchase books for donation to the school library.

For every $1,350 we raise, we will add an additional grade. For instance, if we raise $2,700, we will buy a book for every 1st AND 2nd grader. We will send updates as we add grades.

This is the third year we've done this! Last year, through your generosity, we were able to buy about $4,000 in books for the kids!
