Public art has the power to stop us in our tracks and remind us that creativity belongs to everyone.
Alketa Xhafa Mripa is a London-based conceptual artist whose work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and public spaces around the world. For more than a decade, her internationally recognised participatory public art installation Thinking of You has travelled between cities and communities, sharing the voices of survivors of wartime sexual violence through powerful acts of collective remembrance, solidarity, and advocacy.
Today, Thinking of You enters a new chapter. Following installations across Europe and North America, we are raising funds to bring the project to more major cities and audiences, ensuring survivors' stories continue to be seen, heard, and remembered.
Vision
Thinking of You is a large-scale public art installation honouring survivors of wartime sexual violence while advocating for dignity, justice, and lasting change.
The work transforms clothing donated by survivors and supporters into striking public displays that encourage reflection, dialogue, and action. Each garment represents an individual story, serving as a reminder that behind every statistic is a human life shaped by resilience and courage.
By presenting the installation in cities where international policy, diplomacy, human rights, and public discourse are shaped, Thinking of You creates opportunities to engage decision-makers, institutions, and the wider public in conversations about accountability, recognition, and support for survivors.
Since its inception in Prishtina, Kosovo, the project has travelled internationally, including installations in The Hague, Strasbourg, New York, and Oslo. Future presentations are planned in more cities across Europe and beyond, continuing the project's mission to amplify survivors' voices on a global stage.
About Thinking of You
Sexual violence in conflict remains widespread, while many survivors continue to face stigma, silence, and barriers to justice. Thinking of You stands as a symbol of resilience, transforming spaces of everyday life into places of remembrance, awareness, and hope.
The project began in Kosovo, where thousands of donated dresses were displayed in the national stadium to honour survivors of the 1998-99 war. The installation became a powerful collective gesture of recognition and healing, attracting international attention and inspiring a growing global movement.
Since then, Thinking of You has evolved into an international platform that connects survivors, advocates, artists, institutions, and communities. In The Hague, with support from the Mukwege Foundation, garments donated by survivors from more than 20 countries were displayed in the International City of Peace and Justice. In Strasbourg, the installation transformed streets and public spaces across the city, coinciding with engagements at the Council of Europe. Most recently, the project was presented in New York near the United Nations Headquarters and in Oslo through a partnership with the Nobel Peace Center.
Across every location, the installation delivers the same message: survivors deserve visibility, dignity, and justice.
