Kelsey Gibson-Kincardine ON waiting for a liver
In January 2020, Kelsey was diagnosed with Wilson’s Disease, https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/wilsons-disease/symptoms-causes/syc-20353251 which has caused end stage liver disease. Kelsey has been in the hospital since December 7, 2019, spent 2 weeks in St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener and is currently an inpatient at University Hospital in London awaiting a full liver transplant. Kelsey did not experience any symptoms until September/October 2019 when she started to feel very tired and by the end of November 2019, she was too tired to leave her apartment. On December 7th, she fainted at which point, she was brought to St. Mary’s hospital.
According to the Mayo Clinic, this disease is rare and affects 1 in 30,000 people, each parent needs to carry the gene to pass it along to their children.
A good friend organized this Go Fund Me Page in December, to help with unexpected expenses. The support and love we have seen has been overwhelming from our family and friends cheering us on along this journey. The donations have been extremely helpful to cover the cost of our accommodation at the Guest House on the Mount which is beside the hospital and will also be used to help Kelsey with costs while she waits for her transplant, and costs following the transplant until she is able to get back to work.
Kelsey’s story has been posted in the Kincardine Record: http://www.kincardinerecord.com/story.php?id=8568
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and just another reminder to spread the word to sign your donor card, and give blood when you can.
Forever grateful – Peter, Jodie, Kelsey
