Thiago Sobral Support Fund

Life can change in a moment, unfortunately such a moment happened to my good friend and reining trainer Thiago Sobral this week.  On June 1st during a paid warm up at our reining competition in Katy TX the horse Thiago was riding stumbled during a fast circle.  At the speed they were going, recovery wasn’t possible and the horse rolled on Thiago.  The horse is ok and could compete the next day.

Thiago is not ok.

After being transported to the hospital via ambulance it was discovered he had a brain bleed, dislocated shoulder, fractured arm, broken ribs, bruised lungs, cracked vertebrae and compressed disk.  We are thankful a second CT scan showed no further bleeding and he was released from ICU to a regular hospital room the following day.  Currently, we do not know what surgeries may be required on his arm and/or shoulder or the length of his hospital stay.   We do know he is in pain and has a lot of recovery time ahead.

The horse Thiago was riding is a very experienced, very broke horse.  Thiago is an excellent rider.  This is a reminder of the inherit risks we as “horse people” take and often overlook.  This could happen to any of us.

Thiago’s livelihood and his family’s sole support is his training business and he will be out of commission for some time; we don’t know how long.  He is a husband and proud father of two small girls.  He and his family need our support.  I ask the entire horse community and especially the reining community to come together for his support.

First please open your hearts and pray for him and his family and then open your wallets to help in this time of need.  Any help will be appreciated.
